Despite running for 21 years in total, the show The Comeback is concluding after its third season. Following the premiere of the latest episodes over the weekend, star and co-creator Lisa Kudrow shared the reason behind the decision to end the series.
The comedy series features actress Courteney Cox playing Valerie Cherish, a Los Angeles performer desperate for her big break. In the newest season, Valerie lands a leading role in a sitcom, only to discover the script was created by an AI.
The comedy series, which previously aired seasons one and two in 2005 and 2014, returned for its final season on Sunday, March 22nd. Courteney Cox has confirmed this will be the last chapter in Valerie’s story.

As a huge fan, I was a little heartbroken to hear that Season 7 will be the last. The creator explained to Variety that because the show has only had big, event-style seasons every ten years, it’s hard to justify doing another one so soon. And thankfully, her co-creator also assured everyone it wasn’t just a publicity stunt – they really mean it’s the end!
I could easily imagine Lisa and me writing a story where Valerie goes to a yoga retreat,” he said. “But that’s not the direction our show took. Instead, we ended up becoming a kind of funny, critical look at how society and time are changing in strange ways.

Lisa Kudrow, also a producer on the show, discussed the themes of the final season, including artificial intelligence – a subject that’s been explored in many recent movies and TV shows.
I’m more concerned about new, aspiring creatives who haven’t yet established themselves than I am for myself. The opportunities for writers have been steadily decreasing since we began, and it doesn’t seem like a common or appealing career path anymore.

Leaving the entertainment world, the situation becomes genuinely concerning. Even just looking at the business side of things, many people fear losing their jobs to automation or other changes.
Although many fans are sad to see the show end, critics are loving the latest season. Currently, it has a 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 14 reviews.
The Comeback airs on Sky Comedy in the UK.
I’m so excited! The latest issue of Living Legends, a gorgeous, full-color magazine celebrating Harry Styles, is finally out! You can grab a copy at newsstands or order it online. It’s 100 pages of pure Harry goodness!
