James Gunn, in a recent interview, discussed the possibility of Chris Pratt portraying a character in the DC Universe, with regards to Batman. His comments suggested potential roles for Pratt within the DC Universe in the future.
James Gunn confirms Chris Pratt won’t be Batman in DCU
When chatting with PelucheEnElEstuche, filmmaker James Gunn directly addressed the query about Chris Pratt possibly portraying Bruce Wayne in the DC Universe. Gunn said, “As Batman? No. In some other capacity? Yes.” He highlighted Pratt’s potential for a different role, stating, “Chris Pratt is one of my good friends and we often talk. He’s a terrific person, and he’s eager to do something at DC. I hope he gets a chance to work on a project with DC.
In January 2023, it was announced that a new iteration of Batman, led by director Andy Muschietti (It, It Chapter Two), will be part of James Gunn’s DC Universe, under the title The Brave and the Bold. This upcoming film will introduce a fresh take on the iconic character, with Batman working alongside his son Damian Wayne as Robin. As for who will play Batman, Gunn has yet to reveal any casting news in this regard.
In that very interview, I playfully dismissed the notion of Chris Pratt taking on alternative roles. When they inquired if he could be Wonder Woman, I jokingly stated, “He wouldn’t make a good Wonder Woman. That would be disastrous.” Regarding Pratt as Shazam, I firmly declared, “No, I don’t believe so,” and when questioned about potential roles for him, I admitted, “I need to ponder that.
Gunn stated that some of his previous partners from Marvel are now featured in DC productions. He elaborated, “Fans who have watched Superman will recognize a few individuals within the film who I had previously worked with at Marvel.” This suggests that Gunn intends to carry on working with reliable actors while reinventing the DC Universe.
Despite James Gunn stating that Dave Bautista won’t play Batman, his comments hint that there could be a chance for Bautista to take on another character in the DC Universe at some point.
The Brave and the Bold remains without a set release date as development continues.
