Why can’t Nima release his gas into the world in Snowpiercer?
As a long-time fan of Snowpiercer, I must say that Season 4 has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. The return of Melanie and the revelation about Nima’s past have added a whole new layer to the story.
In Snowpiercer’s Season 4, Episode 7, upon Melanie’s return, she delivered grim tidings to Nima. His plan to discharge the gas would lead to immediate fatalities for all involved
It transpired towards the end of the episode that Nima’s fervor for saving the world stems from the fact that he was responsible for causing the catastrophic freeze in the beginning. Ever since, he has been consumed with rectifying his error, yet his scientific theories have their shortcomings
Melanie has observed that Gemini could potentially cause more devastation to Earth. She suggests we should be patient
Nima could permanently end the world in Snowpiercer
Should Nima proceed with his scheme, Melanie explains the possible consequences. Essentially, all the Earth’s oxygen would be swapped out. Without this essential element, human life becomes unsustainable. In other words, it would mean immediate demise for every living being on Earth
Alex’s pet avian provided evidence for this claim. It appears that Alex is experiencing nosebleeds, which suggest an upcoming event, and she’s not the only one dealing with them. Nima has such faith in Gemini that he’s prepared to take significant risks, but Melanie strongly objects. However, it seems like Melanie won’t have a say in this matter
It’s well-known that Melanie isn’t infallible. During the third season, she reported that no habitable land could be found, and the bridge was dangerously unstable, potentially trapping everyone in New Eden if it turned out to be a frozen wilderness. Thankfully, it wasn’t, but due to her scientific findings, Melanie felt compelled not to take unnecessary risks
She’s unwilling to jeopardize the remaining portions of the human species, for if there were even a slight flaw in her research, she would consider adopting Nima’s strategy. However, she is aware that Nima has erred in his assumptions. There are indeed alternative iterations of Gemini that expose him as a chemist with questionable accuracy. His mistakes result in people becoming unwell. She is determined to prevent him from causing the extinction of humanity
