Why Apple TV+’s Imperfect Women Is the Ultimate Comic Book Cast You Never Expected
In a unique cinematic event, “Avengers: Doomsday” will mark the initial appearance of the Thunderbolts, Avengers, Fantastic Four, and the original X-Men simultaneously on screen. Contrarily, at another studio, they are assembling a distinct ensemble cast for the upcoming psychological thriller series titled “Imperfect Women“.
In the latest development for the streaming series “Imperfect Women,” derived from Araminta Hall’s novel, both Corey Stoll and Joel Kinnaman have joined the cast. On television, Stoll is recognized for his roles in “Billions” and Kinnaman for “For All Mankind.” In the superhero realm, they have respectively portrayed the Marvel Cinematic Universe antagonist Yellowjacket/M.O.D.O.K. and DC Extended Universe hero Rick Flag, Jr.
Moreover, it’s important to note that Stoll and Kinnaman aren’t the only actors in the cast who have comic book movies on their resumes. In fact, series leads Elisabeth Moss and Kerry Washington, as well as Kate Mara, another confirmed cast member, also have experience with comic book adaptations. Moss provided the voice for Arisia Rrab, a new recruit of the Green Lantern Corps, in the 2011 DC Universe Animated Original Movies installment titled “Green Lantern: Emerald Knights”. She also voiced Kimmy Ventrix in another production.
Regarding Mara, she portrayed Alicia Masters, the blind sculptor who developed feelings for The Thing, in both _Fantastic Four_ (2005) and its sequel _Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer_ (2007). Moreover, she provided the voice for Princess Shuri in the 2010 motion comic series of _Black Panther_. Prior to that, she had a minor role as a U.S. Marshal in the 2010 film _Iron Man 2_, and later took on the part of Sue Storm/Invisible Woman.
What Is Imperfect Women About?
Title “Imperfect Women” presents a unique, psychological thriller that delves into the repercussions of a crime that disrupts the longstanding bond of three friends. The miniseries delves deep into themes of guilt and retribution, love and deceit, and the choices we make that reshape our lives forever. As the investigation unfolds, so does the revelation of how even the strongest friendships can evolve and alter over time.
Annie Weisman has reworked “Imperfect Women” for Apple TV+ and serves as executive producer on it too. This limited series will be her second project with the streaming service. Rose Byrne starred in “Physical,” a series set in the ’80s, portraying Sheila Rubin throughout its three-season span. The show chronicled her character’s personal growth through aerobics. Although the first season garnered mixed opinions from critics, seasons two and three were generally well-liked, with Rotten Tomatoes scores of 92% and 93%, respectively – a significant improvement on the first season’s 65%.
Last year, when the project was first announced, I proudly shared that Apple had chosen me again to help breathe life into intricate, multidimensional female characters. I’m thrilled to be working alongside Elisabeth, Kerry, and Araminta – these remarkable collaborators who will help bring our Imperfect Women to vivid reality.
