Why Angela Let Dexter Go Answer Gets Revisted In ‘Resurrection’ Premiere – But Some Fans Don’t Buy It
In the final episode of “Dexter: New Blood,” Angela Bishop (played by Julia Jones) had a plausible yet perplexing motive for allowing Dexter to escape. As the police chief in Iron Lake, New York, Angela was leading the investigation into the disappearances of women in her town, including her close friend Iris Broussard. Despite developing romantic feelings for him throughout the crime series, Angela remained oblivious to Dexter’s hidden past as a serial killer, which ultimately led to her decision to let him go.
In time, Angela uncovered Dexter’s hidden truth, linking him to his former identity as the Bay Harbor Butcher. This revelation left her grappling with her emotions towards him, suspecting that he could be connected to the tragic fates of the women in her community (which included Iris).
The new series titled “Dexter: New Blood” serves as a continuation of the original “Dexter” television show. It centers around Dexter’s efforts to establish a fresh start in Iron Lake, and boasts an impressive ensemble that includes Michael C. Hall, Jack Alcott, Julia Jones, Jennifer Carpenter, and Clancy Brown.
The 10-episode limited series premiered on Showtime on November 7, 2021.
Why Did Angela Let Dexter Go In ‘New Blood’?
The climax of “Dexter: New Blood” was packed with shocking surprises. In the end, Angela uncovered that Dexter wasn’t responsible for the vanished women in Iron Lake. Instead, it turned out to be Kurt Caldwell (played by Clancy Brown), and Dexter assisted her in revealing the truth.
Although Dexter continues to function as a serial killer, his alter ego – the Dark Passenger – emerges exclusively during instances requiring him to take lives. However, unlike typical serial killers, he targets and eliminates them, serving as a self-styled vigilante with an unusual approach, safeguarding innocence in his unique manner.
Following the revelation of the truth, Angela chose to release Dexter while simultaneously concealing Jack Alcott’s (Harrison) actions after he fired at his father in the suspenseful finale of “New Blood”.
In the follow-up series titled “Dexter: Resurrection” (also known as “New Blood”), it became clear that Dexter had been in a coma for ten weeks following an incident where his son, Harrison, shot him.
Upon regaining consciousness from my coma, I found myself in a hospital room where Officer Teddy Reed broke the news to me: Angela, along with her daughter, had decided to depart our town, after the traumatic conclusion of the New Blood series.
It was discovered that Angela chose to release Dexter from her custody since she found peace following his assistance in solving the mystery of her friend’s disappearance by disclosing where Kurt had concealed her body and those of other missing girls in Iron Lake. She even penned a letter for him, saying, “Things are now balanced. Leave Iron Lake immediately.
In the series “New Blood” and “Dexter: Resurrection”, Dexter was eventually cleared of all charges thanks to Angela, who placed all the blame on Kurt. This left Dexter a free man by the end of these stories.
Why Fans Are Mad About Angela’s Decision
In the initial episode of “Dexter: Resurrection,” Dexter was able to depart from Iron Lake and journey to New York in search of his son, Harrison. However, some viewers find themselves puzzled by Angela’s choice to allow Dexter to leave, as there seem to be inconsistencies surrounding her decision. As a movie reviewer, I found myself questioning Angela’s motives throughout the series, as it seemed odd that a full-scale investigation by the FBI, hinted at in the finale with the arrival of black SUVs, hadn’t been triggered given the mounting evidence of Dexter’s murders in Iron Lake.
Although Angela might have convinced the FBI agents that Kurt Caldwell was responsible for it, based on Dexter’s stack of evidence against him, it remained puzzling why no additional investigations were conducted in this case.
Furthermore, Captain Angel Batista (previously an ally to Dexter from the original series) made his appearance in the first episode of Dexter: Resurrection, having been persuaded by Angela that Dexter might be the Bay Harbor Butcher.
In addition, it appeared that he believed Dexter was not guilty, and it may be that Angela persuaded him too. Nevertheless, by the end of Episode 1, we learn that Batista has been secretly investigating Dexter, particularly since he managed to flee from the hospital and head to New York.
It’s uncertain whether Angela will reappear in the future, but the series Dexter: Resurrection seems to suggest that her narrative has reached its end, as she appears to have found the resolution she required, despite how self-centered this may seem.
