A very extravagant birthday party hosted by socialite Deborah Symond O’Neil has sparked criticism in Sydney. Many found the display of wealth inappropriate given the current financial pressures faced by many people.

The daughter of Aussie Home Loans founder John Symond celebrated her 38th birthday with a lavish party inspired by the novel Wuthering Heights. The event featured beautiful, overflowing flower arrangements, tables lit with candles, and a remarkably elaborate decoration: a swan sculpted entirely from butter.

The incredibly detailed sculpture, made from fine French butter and valued at over $1,500, was the talk of the event, and guests excitedly posted pictures of it online.

It looks like most people didn’t actually eat the swan, likely not wanting to indulge in something so rich and potentially gain weight.

While some guests were amazed by the elaborate decorations, others shared their disappointment on a WhatsApp group chat.

The party itself was nothing short of a spectacle.

Taking inspiration from Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, Deborah turned her $21 million home into a beautiful, romantic setting reminiscent of the classic novel, but with a gentler, more delicate feel than the book’s typically gloomy and dramatic atmosphere.

Soft, flowing fabric covered everything, and beautiful rose bouquets were displayed beneath sheer, delicate tulle, making it feel like a scene from a historical movie.

The tables were laden with beautiful displays: tiered fruit platters, elaborately decorated cakes, and sparkling glasses filled with desserts, many of which featured Deborah’s initials, DSO.

A DJ played music from a booth decorated with playful pink satin drapes, and a luxurious silk couch provided a beautiful spot for photos.

By Mag Nolia, a sought-after event stylist, handled the decorations, and Lia Townsend of Stories To Gather, a premier caterer, provided the food.

Deborah hosted a lavish party that extended from her mansion into the gardens, complete with charming outdoor furniture from Moments To Love.

As a style enthusiast, I couldn’t help but notice a beautiful look at a recent event! Ned O’Neil’s wife clearly took cues from Margot Robbie’s incredible ‘Wuthering Heights’ press tour style. She wore a stunning white corset dress by Alexander McQueen – a real statement piece with a price tag of $5,300. It was a lovely nod to that iconic fashion moment!

She paired this with Amina Muaddi heels worth $1,575.

Celebrity hairstylist Rory Rice created a beautiful updo with delicate curls for her, and makeup artist Bianca Brown completed the look with rosy cheeks, giving her a romantic, storybook vibe.

Her wealthy friends were all at the wedding, wearing stylish outfits inspired by the novel Wuthering Heights.

The event was attended by several notable figures, including Pilates instructor Bernadette Sukkar, known for her popular Bondi studio; Montarna McDonald, a mother and PR firm owner; interior designer Poppy Tzaneros; and Alyce Tran, who co-founded the personalized leather goods company, The Daily Edited.

Michael Wipfli, a radio host on Nova 96.9FM’s Drive show and advocate for online safety, was also present with his wife, Lisa.

Deborah’s socialite sister-in-law Lou O’Neil was also spotted enjoying the festivities.

She is married to Ned O’Neil, and Lou is married to his brother, Jake. Both Ned and Jake are the sons of Denis O’Neil, a wealthy yacht broker who owns the Rose Bay marina.

Deborah gained public attention after her highly publicized wedding to Ned in April 2018. She is the owner of Mode Sportif, an athleisure store in Double Bay.

The luxurious Qualia resort on Hamilton Island was fully booked for the three-day celebration, where no cost was spared.

The couple flew 120 guests to North Queensland for the occasion.
