Who’s The Boss star Danny Pintauro hospitalized after horror scooter accident
As I delve into the life of Danny Pintauro, a man who has faced adversity with unwavering resilience, I am left in awe of his journey and indomitable spirit. Having starred in the iconic sitcom “Who’s the Boss?” and publicly revealing his HIV-positive status on Oprah, Pintauro’s life story is a testament to human fortitude and the power of self-discovery.
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I found myself admitted to the hospital due to a terrible scooter mishap that resulted in a tear in my stomach – Danny Pintauro (The Boss actor).
48-year-old ex-child actor, famously recognized as Jonathan Bower from the classic sitcom, required an emergency operation following an accident during his Thanksgiving night bike ride, where he crashed into light poles.
Posting pictures from the hospital bed, he captioned: ‘I found myself in a tough spot, having to decide between a vehicle and a power pole. The power poles proved painful!! I ended up with a deep gash on my arm and was quite certain I’d fractured it. However, the next morning, I felt significantly better, so I worried less.’
He said the following day he got severe pain in his chest, stomach and shoulders and could ‘barely breathe’ so husband Wil Tabares took him to hospital.
It was discovered that he had an infection in his bloodstream as a result of a tear in his stomach lining, allowing air and stomach acid to leak into his abdomen.
I’ve never experienced such intense agony before in all my life. Consequently, an urgent operation was necessary last night to mend the tear.
Following my successful surgery, the discomfort that once plagued me has significantly diminished, though my body is still tender to the touch.
After removing the breathing tube, I must keep a different tube inserted into my stomach for three days to help drain acids, preventing disruption of the surgical repairs. This also implies that I will not consume any food or drink during this period.
In a nutshell, they often claim this, but it holds a lot of truth – if I hadn’t acted promptly, I might not be here today. It was my body that signaled there was something terribly amiss.
‘My wonderful husband Will drove me here and has been by my side for the whole thing.
He asked you to remember him in your prayers over the next few days, hoping that the repairs will be successful and he can leave soon.
‘This is my first major surgery I, first emergency surgery EVER but I kept it together.”
‘It was absolutely terrifying. If anybody might wanna send me flowers, I wouldn’t be opposed.
“Ha ha, just joking! Actually, I’m feeling quite tense, famished, uncomfortable, and drained. Could you light a candle for me, please? By the way, good news – they took an X-ray of my arm and it’s not fractured! So, at least there’s one positive thing going on.
Pintauro starred alongside Judith Light and Tony Danza on Who’s The Boss from 1984-1992.
2015 saw him openly disclose that he had been diagnosed with HIV back in 2003, sharing this information during an interview on Oprah’s show.
In the initial interview with Oprah: Where Are They Now?, Pintauro shared the reason behind his decision to openly discuss his health issues, a topic he had remained silent on for 12 years following his diagnosis.
He said: ‘I wanted to tell you this a long time ago, but I wasn’t ready. I’m ready now, I’m HIV-positive and I have been for 12 years.’
Additionally, Pintauro shared that he regretted not having the opportunity to serve as an inspiration for others in similar circumstances when he came out as gay during his college years in 1997.
In simpler terms, Angela, the actress who portrayed his on-screen mom, persuaded him to discuss matters with the media openly when a journalist from a tabloid threatened to publish an article about him whether he cooperated or not.
Pintauro revealed he had come out of a long-term relationship when he began experimenting sexually and using crystal meth when he caught the virus.
But he also tested for HIV every six months – and in March 2003, it came back positive.
Towards the end of the conversation, he mentioned that he had been using crystal meth, a substance known for devastating effects on one’s immune system.
Recently, I ended a two-year romance and found myself yearning for new sexual experiences. Crystal meth, as you may know, diminishes personal restraints.
‘I was experimenting and believe it or not, I thought I was being safe in that encounter.’
However, Pintauro couldn’t recall the man’s name, expressing his remorse, “I wish I knew who he was, for that individual transformed my life entirely.
I recently had my routine health examination. As a conscientious man within the LGBTQ+ community, I get tested every half a year.
You stepped inside and spent about two weeks in a state of anxious anticipation, as I personally found myself fearful about the possibility of contracting HIV.
It’s an unusual mix of emotions. I feel a heavy sense of ‘Perhaps I can’t form a fulfilling connection, or maybe there’s nobody who would choose to be with me.’
‘That was there and that was prevalent.’
He mentioned that when he initially encountered Wil Tabares, who is now his spouse, this was the initial detail he shared.
On our initial outing together, neither of us had shared a kiss yet. Surprisingly, that’s the very topic I broached first. His response? He wasn’t the least bit intimidated by it.
He shared with Oprah that he’s accepted his medical condition, and he wants his experience to inspire others traveling along a similar path.
‘Back then, it was terrifying and also there was a sense of relief,’ he added.
‘Things are reversed. You’ve been worrying for so long about getting it, only to find yourself in possession of it now. No need to worry any longer.’
