Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters animated series officially in the works at Netflix

As a long-time fan of the Ghostbusters franchise, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming animated series! Having grown up with The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters, I’ve always cherished the witty banter, supernatural humor, and thrilling ghost-hunting adventures that this series has provided.

Back in June 2022, there were plans to develop a new animated “Ghostbusters” series at Netflix. Excitingly, this project is now officially underway as confirmed on August 12! We’re thrilled about this news and have gathered all the details we know so far about the upcoming Netflix original.

The popular Ghostbusters series encompasses movies, TV shows, video games, board games, comic books, and more. The latest addition to this collection is the supernatural comedy movie titled “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” featuring stars like Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Celeste O’Connor, and others. In this film, we witnessed the veteran Ghostbusters joining forces with new ghost hunters in a bid to protect the world from a malicious force.

Including Netflix’s fresh take on the Ghostbusters animated series, there will now be three animated shows in total within the franchise, making it a collection of three animated series. Previously, we had two animated series: The Real Ghostbusters (1986-1991) and its successor Extreme Ghostbusters (1997).

Comedian Elliott Kalan will take on dual roles as scriptwriter and executive producer in the upcoming Sony Pictures Animation’s Ghostbusters animated series. Notably, he has a history of writing for shows such as The Daily Show, Mystery Science Theater 3000, and HouseBroken. Alongside Kalan, Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan from Ghost Corps, Inc. will also serve as executive producers. The duo co-authored the screenplay for the movie “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” with Kenan additionally directing the live-action film.

As someone who has been a fan of the original “Ghostbusters” films since I was a kid, I am beyond excited for the upcoming Netflix animated series! Growing up, those movies were a staple in my household, and I can’t wait to see how they bring the same humor and excitement to a new generation. With my extensive experience in animation, I have high hopes that this 3D series will deliver top-notch visuals that truly capture the essence of the ghostly world. As a seasoned viewer, I can attest that this collaboration between Netflix and Ghost Corps, Inc. is sure to produce something special. I’m counting down the days until its release!
