Who left Strictly Come Dancing? Jamie Borthwick is the ninth celeb to waltz away from the competition after fans blasted judges for ‘constantly marking down’ the EastEnders star
I must say, as someone who has spent years watching and appreciating the art of dance, last night’s episode of Strictly was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride! The performances were simply breathtaking, with Tasha Ghouri and Aljaž Škorjanec stealing the show with their flawless American Smooth, earning a well-deserved perfect 40. It was heartwarming to see Craig Revel Horwood finally award a ten, and long overdue in my humble opinion!
On the results show held on Sunday evening, Jamie Borthwick from Strictly and his partner Michelle Tsiakkas were the ones who had to exit the competition, making them the ninth pair to do so.
The actor from EastEnders, aged 30, was removed following a tough dance-off with Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe.
On Saturday, the show was marked by angry spectators criticizing the judges for consistently giving low scores to the actor, leading some to allege that the judging panel might be showing bias.
Despite this, the last pair of couples returned to the dance floor once more. Jamie and Michelle danced their Foxtrot, but the judges ultimately preferred Montell and Johannes’s Quickstep.
The Gladiators star was saved by all four judges – Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke, and Shirley Ballas, as they collectively decided to spare her, since she had ended up at the bottom for the third time.
In conversation with Tess Daly about his experience on the program, Jamie expressed: “Strictly Come Dancing is nothing short of magical. I can’t say much more than that. This show, Strictly Come Dancing, is magical – not only the judges you see on camera like these four here, but everyone behind the scenes who makes it happen.
He continued to praise his fellow contestants and then shifted his focus to partner Michelle: “She’s a new professional, and she’s been simply fantastic as a teacher. We’ve shared laughter beyond belief. I hold the highest regard for every participant on this show, so thank you all.
While Michelle, a newcomer to the show this season, remarked: ‘It’s clear that Jamie is an outstanding dancer, and his improvement from one week to the next has been remarkable. He’s put in tremendous effort to reach his current level.’
This is my initial experience of being in a partnership, and I’ve come to understand that it entails far more than just the dance moves and techniques. It’s about forming connections and friendships that truly matter. After waiting two years for this partner, I wouldn’t want it any differently.
Sunday’s results show also features a phenomenal performance from the Sugababes, who took to the dance floor with a medley of hits Overload, Freak Like Me and Push The Button.
Although numerous spectators praised Jamie’s performance on the primary stage, the judges continued to deliver severe criticism towards him. This has led some individuals to allege that the judging panel is showing favoritism.
Commenting on the soap star’s routine before voting, judge Anton said: ‘Right arm is terrible.’
Craig was quite open when he commented, “At times, it seemed like you were wearing a neck-brace, which appeared to restrict your dance movements.
While the lead judge, Shirley, adjusted the actor’s chin placement too, the pair scored a total of 32 points collectively.
Fans of the popular BBC series quickly flocked to social media, expressing their disapproval at the judging panel for being overly critical and negative towards Jamie on the Sambathon, arguing that he didn’t fairly deserve to be the second contestant eliminated.
I’m growing tired of Jamie consistently receiving low marks from the judges. I found his Foxtrot to be beautiful. I just hope he’s not in danger this week. #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing (#Strictly, #StrictlyComeDancing)
‘FFS – sick of the judges giving Jamie a bloody lecture every week #strictly’; ‘I dont understand why they’re always soo picky with Jamie. But they let others get away with murder I thought his dance was great #strictly’; ‘Shirley absolutely murdering Jamie again – for no good reason #strictly’;
“I can’t believe how tough these judges are being on Jamie week after week, it feels like they’re breaking his spirit! #Strictly
It’s rather unsettling to see how these judges treat Jamie sometimes compared to other celebrities who are far worse on Strictly Come Dancing. (#Strictly)
I’d happily spend an entire day watching Jamie Borthwick dance. He deserves more recognition because he danced that Foxtrot exceptionally well! It’s evident how much he enjoys dancing and learning, purely for the joy of it. #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing
‘How is Pete better than Jamie ffs! These judges are a joke with the favourites #Strictly’; ‘I think Jamie was a hell of a lot better than his marks reflected but the judges are always nitpicking with him! #Strictly’;
It appears that the judges have a strong bias against Jamie, as they seem eager for him to leave the competition. The idea of removing him before Pete is absurd #Strictly;
Jamie and Sarah should begin hosting their own program, as they’re consistently upheld to an exceptional level of quality that seems to elude others #impeccably-high-standards
In other parts, spectators cheered with joy as Tasha Ghouri and Aljaž Škorjanec achieved the initial flawless 40 score in the competition’s sequence.
26-year-old Love Island celebrity and 34-year-old Slovenian professional dancer received praise from judges and spectators for their American Smooth dance. Notably, even the notoriously tough judge Craig awarded them a perfect score of ten in the 2024 season.
Following a difficult-to-please judge awarding perfect scores, both Shirley and Motsi quickly stood up, causing an uproar that filled the Clauditorium with excitement.
In a flurry, enthusiastic fans at X couldn’t help but rave about the flawless performance, while also commending Craig for long-awaited success in earning a coveted ten points.
Writing: ‘Tasha and Alijaz’s perfomance was just perfect. A 40 well deserved (and finally, Craig!)’: ‘FINALLY a flash of Craig’s 10 paddle! So well deserved and so glad Tasha was the first to score 40!’: ‘I love Tassha and Alijaz so much. beautiful American Smooth and thoroughly deserved the first 40 of the series’.
Previously on the program, viewers found themselves moved by the situation of Amy Dowden, who had to withdraw from the contest weeks ago due to a foot injury.
Keen observers noticed the Welsh professional, aged 34, in the Clauditorium, where she was cheering on her ex-partner JB Gill and his successor Lauren Oakley.
JB and Lauren scored an impressive 39 out of 40 for their Charleston and also won the Sambathon.
Amy was stunning in a shimmering, fringed pink gown, standing near her friend and dance partner Carol Gu, aged 31, who affectionately placed an arm around her waist.
