Who is the Tin Man in the Wicked: For Good trailer? Here’s the spoilers from the musical

Wicked spoilers follow.

The final trailer for *Wicked: For Good* is here, and it’s bringing all the feels! It revisits the beloved story of Elphaba and Glinda, and hints at a darker element from the musical that those unfamiliar with the source material might miss.

The upcoming movie, *Wicked: For Good*, will cover the second half of the popular musical, offering a fresh take on the story of *The Wizard of Oz*. It will feature familiar characters like Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion, but with a twist – audiences already know their stories. Be warned: this contains major spoilers for *Wicked* and likely for *Wicked: For Good* as well.

What to Read Next

Near the end of the latest trailer, the Tin Man appears upset and asks, “What have you done to me?” It’s likely this isn’t a new character, but rather Boq Woodsman, who was previously played by Ethan Slater.

We use the phrase ‘strong possibility’ because movie adaptations often differ from the source material, and Wicked could be no exception. But, if the film stays true to the stage musical, we can expect to see the story of how Boq transforms into the Tin Man.

Okay, so in the story, Nessarose ends up as the ruler of Munchkinland and basically takes away all the Munchkins’ freedoms. This means poor Boq is stuck with her, whether he likes it or not. But then Elphaba does this awesome thing and magically fixes Nessarose’s shoes, letting her walk! As soon as she can get around, Boq tries to ditch her and finally go after the girl he *really* wants – Glinda. It’s a messy love triangle, honestly.

Nessarose is upset by this and attempts to use a love spell on Boq from a magical book, but because she isn’t very skilled, the spell goes wrong and begins to shrink his heart. Elphaba realizes the only way to save Boq’s life is to cast a spell that turns him into the Tin Man, allowing him to live without a heart.

Boq believes Elphaba is responsible for him becoming the Tin Man, which motivates him to participate in the search for her. The line, “What have you done to me?” heard in the trailer could be Boq speaking to either Elphaba or Nessarose, but the context suggests it’s him, now the Tin Man, as it aligns with the story from the musical.

Fans of *Wicked* might notice a change in Nessarose’s story. The scene where Elphaba magically gives Nessarose the ability to walk has been adjusted to avoid feeling like a simple ‘fix,’ though it’s currently unknown if this will affect what happens with Boq.

Besides the glimpse of the Tin Man, the trailer hints at a transformation: Fiyero becoming the Scarecrow. In the musical, Elphaba casts a spell to protect Fiyero, and this is how he ends up as the Scarecrow. The trailer shows Elphaba looking at a figure that clearly resembles the Scarecrow, and notably, this figure is wearing Fiyero’s signature green jacket.

The trailer is unusual because it doesn’t show Dorothy’s face, and it appears the movie will follow suit. While rumors suggested Alisha Weir was cast as Dorothy, she might still be playing the role even without appearing on screen.

Rather than a full reveal, we’ll mostly see Dorothy from afar or from behind, similar to what’s shown in the trailer. Cynthia Erivo explained, “I think that’s a beautiful approach, because it allows everyone to maintain their own image of Dorothy.”

Wicked: For Good is released in cinemas on 21 November.
