White Lotus’ Jason Isaacs addresses “double standard” following nude scene

The White Lotus star Jason Isaacs has addressed the “double standards” in the industry following his recent nude scene.

The third season of the HBO anthology series sees Isaacs play Timothy Ratliff, a financier who vacations in Thailand with his wife, Victoria (Parker Posey), and their children, encountering many hotel guests in the process.

In the fourth episode of the season, Timothy appears on screen without his private parts properly covered while he is around his kids, leading to debates among viewers about whether Isaacs was using a fake genitalia in that particular scene.

During an appearance on CBS Mornings, the actor shared that he found the discussion to be indicative of a “double standard” in the industry, explaining: “A lot of people are debating it. It’s all over the internet.

“It’s interesting because the Best Actress [winner] this year is Mikey Madison at the Oscars. And I don’t see anybody discussing her vulva, which was on [the screen] all the time. It’s interesting that there’s a double standard for men.”

He continued: “But when women are naked, Margaret Qualley as well, in The Substance, nobody would dream of talking to her about her genitalia or her nipples or any of those things. So, it’s odd that there’s a double standard when it comes to this kind of thing.”

Speaking about the debate over whether his penis was a prosthetic, he said: “I don’t think that people really want to know how the sausage is made… I genuinely think it would be odd when there are characters – and some of the women are naked in here – it’d be odd if you were sitting here. You would never dream of discussing their genitalia, not for a second.”

However, alliances were constantly shifting and sometimes dissolved. There was a hidden influence, like the “White Lotus,” just as much as there was visible influence on the screen. I hope there were fewer tragic outcomes compared to the on-screen version, but after seven months, we were all intertwined, living in close proximity and influencing each other significantly.
