Rumors are swirling that Sarah Abo may be leaving the Today show, and people are already speculating about what her next job will be.

According to a report in The Australian newspaper over the weekend, there’s a possibility that Abo may be replaced as host by Samantha Armytage.

The recent changes to the show’s on-air talent are reportedly a last-ditch effort to beat Seven’s ‘Sunrise’ in the ratings.

A Media Spy user speculated that this change might lead to Karl Stefanovic pursuing a career in radio, especially after he recently demonstrated his skills on Nova FM.

This could be why Sarah Abo recently stepped in to cover for Chrissie Swan on the radio. Sources say she’s considering what’s next for her career.

Abo is a frequent guest on The Chrissie Swan Show and recently covered for Chrissie on the radio program for a week in late September.

The possibility of a change in hosts sparked a lot of discussion, and many viewers felt it would be a bad decision for Nine to replace Abo with Armytage on Today.

‘Karlos and Sarah are just fine atm. No need to change,’ one offered. 

Another suggested there had already been too many personnel changes announced at the network.  

Honestly, as a long-time viewer, the last thing *Today* needs right now is more upheaval. Between the changes happening with the sports coverage and the plans for a completely new *Weekend Today* team next year, it feels like things are constantly shifting. I’m really hoping they’ll settle down and let the current team build some consistency.

As a devoted viewer, I’m a little worried about Nine’s plans. I’ve heard the new show, *The Golden Bachelor* with Jessica Armytage, could actually hurt them if people don’t end up loving it. It’s a risk, and I’m hoping it pays off, but it could really backfire if the audience isn’t engaged.

They’re hesitant about featuring Sam in their show, worried about potential risks. If *The Golden Bachelor* doesn’t perform well, having her appear on *Today* could be awkward.

Others were quick to claim that Armytage would be a perfect addition to the Today team. 

‘I for one would love to see Sam back on morning television,’ a viewer offered.

‘Her fun personality and versatile ability as a host makes her perfect for the format.’ 

Nine, the network behind the ‘Sunrise’ program, hopes to repeat past success, referencing a ratings boost the show experienced in 2013 when Natalie Armytage became a host. They’re calling this potential increase the ‘Armytage effect’.

After leaving Sunrise in 2021, Armytage took on leadership roles with Farmer Wants A Wife and is now producing The Golden Bachelor.

Nine CEO Matt Stanton didn’t address rumors about Karl Stefanovic’s co-host on Today, offering a vague answer when asked if David Koch was taking the position alongside Armytage.

“To be honest, I haven’t looked at it closely enough to have an opinion,” Stanton said this week.

Abo joined Today in 2023, replacing outgoing host Allison Langdon.

Langdon revealed she was leaving her previous position in 2022 and subsequently became the host of A Current Affair, taking over from Tracy Grimshaw.

According to The Australian, Abo recently asked for a raise, and this contributed to their decision to change things up.

As a longtime fan, I was thrilled to hear Stefanovic received a huge, long-term contract from Nine! However, I also understand the network is carefully watching how Karl’s performance impacts the ratings – it’s a business, after all, and they need to see results.

According to a June report in The Australian, the breakfast show host has secured a contract worth $3 million annually.

Mediaweek reports that Abo earns $800,000 annually, which demonstrates a significant difference in pay compared to his counterpart, revealing a gender pay gap.

According to a report, Nine Network executives gathered at their North Sydney office and collected enough funds to offer Karl Stefanovic a contract worth approximately $3 million annually.

Stefanovic was earning $2.8 million annually and was expected to receive a raise due to his continued success hosting the popular breakfast show.

The report indicates that Nine agreed to the TV presenter’s requests after he warned he would quit if his new contract wasn’t for a sufficient amount.

The announcement was surprising, especially since competing breakfast show hosts Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington together earn only about $2 million.
