Where Punisher Is Directly Addressed In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 3

Be warned, this contains spoilers for episodes 2 and 3 of Daredevil: Born Again! While The Punisher remains a part of the show’s story, he won’t actually appear on screen. The recent episodes explain where Frank Castle is and why he hasn’t been seen.

The first episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 shows that Mayor Fisk’s task force, which is meant to stop vigilantes, is still using The Punisher’s logo – now with more official recognition. Plus, episodes 2 and 3 of the season have revealed more about Frank Castle’s involvement from the first season, leading characters to finally discuss what he’s been up to.

Daredevil And Karen’s New Hideout Belonged To Frank Castle’s Punisher

Following the attack on Josie’s Bar by the AVTF in the second episode of Daredevil: Born Again, Matt Murdock and Karen Page have to find a new hiding place because it’s become too risky for them to be out in public.

Mayor Fisk is playing a clever game. He’s publicly declared Daredevil a criminal and ordered his capture, but at the same time, he’s presented the missing Matt Murdock as a hero who saved his life. This strategy turns public opinion against Daredevil without revealing his true identity, and ironically, it actually helps Matt Murdock stay hidden.

Consequently, the show depicts Karen and Matt taking refuge in a safe house originally seen in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again. This is the very place where Frank and Matt had a memorable and intense confrontation regarding Bullseye and Foggy’s death – a standout scene from that season.

The safe house from the first season of Daredevil: Born Again reappears in season 2, but Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, is absent. It seems he hasn’t been back since he escaped the AVTF, as hinted at in a conversation between Karen and Matt about his current whereabouts.

How Daredevil: Born Again Addresses The Punisher’s Absence In Season 2

Both Karen Page and Matt Murdock are trying to find Frank Castle, as The Punisher hasn’t been in touch with either of them since the end of the first season of Daredevil: Born Again.

In season 2, episode 3 of Daredevil: Born Again, Karen wonders if Matt believes Frank Castle is dead. However, both Karen and Matt realize that if Castle were dead, Wilson Fisk would be sure to make a public announcement about it.

Frank Castle is probably just back to his old ways – operating independently and taking on New York’s criminals by himself, instead of actively helping Daredevil fight against Mayor Fisk. Although Karen points out that Frank has assisted them in the past, Matt firmly believes that resorting to murder isn’t the way to defeat Fisk.

Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, has never really been a team player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While he’s occasionally teamed up with Daredevil, those alliances have always been short-lived and strained. This is because Frank’s brutal methods – his willingness to kill his enemies permanently – fundamentally conflict with Daredevil’s commitment to justice through the law and his own moral principles.

It’ll be interesting to see what Frank Castle has been doing in the new Disney+ special, Punisher: One Last Kill, which will be released shortly after the second season of Daredevil: Born Again finishes.

Jon Bernthal is set to reprise his role as the Punisher in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie, marking his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s expected to have both conflicts and an uneasy alliance with Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland.

It seems Marvel Studios is planning major appearances for The Punisher in 2026. Hopefully, they’ll also explain what Frank Castle has been doing during the second season of Daredevil: Born Again.

New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 release Tuesdays on Disney+.
