As a lifestyle expert, I find Matty Wilson’s journey incredibly inspiring. From his humble beginnings as a tradie to becoming the face of aussieBum and making history on Neighbours with the first same-sex marriage on Australian TV, Matty has truly proven that dreams can come true when you seize opportunities.
He became an overnight sensation after posing for popular underwear brand aussieBum.
Even after over a decade, I can’t help but be captivated by Matty Wilson, the undisputed face of Australian men’s swimwear and underwear brands. His chiseled physique, which graced billboards and buses nationwide, remains the epitome of masculine beauty that continues to inspire me.
He has since transitioned into acting and has a surprise new business he co-founded last year.
In 2010, when he was 36 years old, he earned the reputation as the symbol for the brand following his victory as “Tradie of the Year” and his modeling stint as the Australian representation of the “Diet Coke Hunk.
Matt mentioned that his journey towards fame started when he was employed as a tradesman, and a friend of his brought up the fact that there was a contest for an advertisement featuring underwear. This eventual win in the competition launched him into a prosperous acting career in soap operas and modeling.
Following his mother’s submission of pictures taken of him, he swiftly became the model for the AussieBum underwear company.
In the following day, we received a call asking if we were available on Monday. Consequently, we found ourselves at the aussieBum headquarters. Exactly one week later, we flipped open the Sunday newspaper to find a full-page spread featuring me, as he recounted to Nine Honey in 2022.
Following his modeling career’s triumph, he stepped into the cast of the popular Aussie soap, Neighbours, playing Aaron Brennan in 2015. He made history by becoming the first character to get married to another man (David Tanaka, portrayed by Takaya Honda) on Australian television, marking a significant milestone in TV representation.
On the program, they exchanged vows in 2018, not long after same-sex marriage became lawful in Australia in 2017.
Magda Szubanski, a vocal supporter for individuals identifying as gay, lesbian, or transgender, officiated the ceremony.
‘That was the most iconic moment of my career,’ he said.
The tale held great significance for our protagonists, and its impact grew significantly when the Australian government legalized same-sex marriages.
It seems like it occurred either a day before or a day following the broadcast of that episode. That was completely by chance.
Matty is now a co-founder of The Dope, a business specializing in cold tubs, ice baths for recovery, saunas, and leg compression boots that they sell.
The well-liked items from this brand are built with a specific function in mind and are typically less expensive compared to many other cold tubs, while avoiding extended delivery times.
Last year, Matty welcomed his second child with his wife Jessica.
The actor shared several images of their adorable newborn as well as Jessica’s water birth.
In their post, the pair announced, ‘We’ve gained a new teammate,’ while choosing not to reveal the baby’s sex.
The couple even shared a brief video capturing their bundle of joy’s first breaths.
2021 saw the arrival of their firstborn son, a baby boy, for the loving couple, who had kept their pregnancy private before making it public with his birth announcement.
It was quite unexpected for numerous friends and admirers of the couple, as evident by Survivor star Brooke Jowett exclaiming, “Oh my goodness what?!?” in response to Jessica’s update.
In 2019, he and Jessica also surprised fans by posting pictures from the couple’s low-key wedding.
