Where Are Rip & Beth In Kayce’s Yellowstone Sequel, Marshals?

Be warned, this contains spoilers for the first episode of Marshals, titled “Piya Wiconi.” While Kayce returns in the Yellowstone spinoff, the locations of Rip and Beth are currently unknown. The original Yellowstone series concluded in 2024 after gaining significant popularity, and its final episodes featured several character deaths. Notably, Kevin Costner’s departure led to the exit of his character, John Dutton III, which was explained by his dedication to the ranch. Additionally, Beth finally got the revenge she had been seeking with the death of Jamie.

After the events of Yellowstone, only two of Costner’s character’s children remained: Beth and Kayce. Both ultimately found happiness after the ranch was returned to the Broken Rock Indian Reservation. While Yellowstone didn’t fully explore Beth and Kayce’s relationship until after John III’s death, it’s still surprising that they aren’t seen supporting Kayce as he begins his new role in Marshals.

Rip & Beth Moved Away From The Yellowstone Ranch At The End Of The Flagship

The sale of the Yellowstone ranch fulfilled the show’s ongoing commitment to returning the land to its original owners. As part of the deal, Kayce, Monica, and Tate were able to keep East Camp, which is still true in the latest episodes. Beth and Rip, meanwhile, purchased a smaller ranch near Dillon, Montana, as the main house was slated for demolition, and they later moved there.

Dillon, where Kayce is currently living, is located about 40 miles west of Bozeman – the setting for the main Yellowstone storyline. This distance gives Kayce, his wife, and their son, Carter, some independence, especially with their upcoming new show, Dutton Ranch. However, it’s close enough that the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, can easily bring characters from both shows together.

With the first few episodes of Marshals concentrating on Kayce adjusting to his job with the U.S. Marshals Service and Tate starting a new chapter, it doesn’t really make sense for Rip and Beth to appear just for a quick appearance. While cameos are always fun, they work best when they contribute to the story, not just cater to fans.

Will Rip & Beth Ever Appear In Marshals?

As we discussed before, it’s logistically feasible for Rip and Beth to be involved in Marshals. Now, the challenge is finding a believable reason for them to take time away from building their ranch and travel to East Camp. Considering what we’ve seen in Yellowstone, the Duttons generally prefer to stay focused on their own problems unless there’s a really compelling reason to get involved in someone else’s.

Chad Feehan, the showrunner for Dutton Ranch, recently discussed a potential crossover with Marshals. While he hasn’t ruled it out, he explained that both shows are currently focused on building their own unique stories and establishing themselves. He believes it’s more important to first define what each show is about and develop its characters before considering a crossover event. This approach makes sense, as it will ultimately lead to a more compelling and well-integrated storyline.
