When is The Duskbloods coming to PS5 and PC?
Divided by platforms, united by blood.
At the recent Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation, FromSoftware unveiled an action game with Bloodborne-inspired multiplayer elements titled The Duskbloods. Although this announcement took many by surprise, what truly left some stunned was discovering that The Duskbloods is a title exclusively available for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console.
Previously, FromSoftware has worked together with PlayStation, Xbox, and even Nintendo to launch exclusive games on their respective platforms. However, the news of The Duskbloods release came as a surprise to many, especially considering FromSoftware’s multiplatform successes in games such as Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring.
It’s now been confirmed that the upcoming PvPvE Bloodborne successor will exclusively release on the Switch 2. Thus, a key query might be, for how long will The Duskbloods remain exclusive to Nintendo? Or could we potentially see it released on other platforms in the future?
Will The Duskbloods eventually launch on PS5 and PC?
It’s unlikely that Duskbloods will debut on PS5 and PC, primarily because Nintendo tends to be cautious about launching its exclusive games on competing platforms such as PlayStation and Xbox. A notable instance is Platinum Games’ Astral Chain, which was only released on the Nintendo Switch.
It’s worth noting that both PlayStation and Xbox have become less strict about releasing their in-house and collaborative titles on competing platforms. Historically, PlayStation has made some second-party games exclusive to their system for a period of one or two years. In contrast, Xbox now appears to be open to publishing its first-party library on other systems like PlayStation and Nintendo.
In a surprising turn of events, the latest Xbox Direct event featured PlayStation and Nintendo emblems during some game unveilings – something unprecedented in past events. Similarly, PlayStation has become more open about its timed exclusives, usually disclosing the exclusivity duration in fine print at the end of trailer previews.
Nonetheless, Nintendo appears unaware of these strategies. It continues to stick with its longstanding approach of releasing games only on its own systems, which helps drive console sales. Consequently, the notion that The Duskbloods will eventually be playable on PS5, PC, and Xbox seems rather improbable.
A positive aspect of The Duskbloods being a multiplayer game is that it allows for shared experiences. However, Nintendo isn’t typically well-suited for running visually intense multiplayer games.
According to Lance McDonald, a well-known content creator who developed an unofficial 60 FPS patch for Bloodborne, he noted that the Duskbloods’ reveal trailer was played at 1080p and 30 FPS. This isn’t the optimal resolution and frame rate for any action multiplayer game.
As a fellow gaming enthusiast, I’ve got some news that might make us wait a bit longer for the anticipated release of The Duskbloods. If Nintendo decides to bring this game to PS5, PC, or Xbox, we probably won’t be able to get our hands on it until 2027. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and enjoy the gaming journey together until then!
