When does NASCAR return (and when are the Olympics finished)?

As a die-hard NASCAR fan with over two decades of racing passion under my belt, I must say, the summer break has felt like an eternity! But fear not, fellow speed enthusiasts, the Olympics are wrapping up this weekend, and just in time for the Truck Series to rev its engines once more. The Clean Harbors 250 at Richmond Raceway is going to be a thrilling ride, and I can’t wait to catch it live on Fox Sports 1!

Over the past two weekends, neither the Cup Series, Xfinity Series, nor the Truck Series have held any NASCAR national series events at Indianapolis Motor Speedway or Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park following the Brickyard 400 weekend.

The summer vacation period coincides with NBC airing the Summer Olympics held in Paris, France this year. As for NASCAR, it’s their turn on NBC’s broadcast schedule, following the regular transition from Fox that occurred around mid-June.

Instead of having Truck Series races broadcast on different networks like Fox, Fox Sports 1, or Fox Sports 2, it made more sense to keep everything streamlined by showing them on the same channels as Cup Series and Xfinity Series races, since many of these events take place at similar locations.

The Summer Olympics are scheduled to come to an end this weekend, and that is when NASCAR action is scheduled to resume.

Actually, the Truck Series is set to resume on the next day, specifically on Sunday, August 11, as the Olympic Games are expected to end on August 10.

On the calendar is the Clean Harbors 250 race happening at Richmond Raceway, with live coverage starting at 7:30 PM Eastern Time on Fox Sports 1.

On Sunday, August 11, the NASCAR Cup Series will compete at Richmond Raceway, a 0.75-mile oval in Virginia, starting from 6:00 PM Eastern Time. The Cook Out 400 event will be broadcast live on USA Network, which is owned by NBCUniversal, following the conclusion of the 2024 Olympics.

The Xfinity Series doesn’t have any events planned until the upcoming weekend. Specifically, the Cabo Wabo 250 will happen at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday, August 17. Coverage of this event will air live on USA Network, starting at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

Next day, the exhilarating Cup Series will take place at the 2.0-mile (3.219-kilometer) oval in Brooklyn, Michigan, known for its four turns. The FireKeepers Casino 400 event will air live on USA Network from 2:30 p.m. ET, Sunday, August 18.

For the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series, from the upcoming weekend until November’s finale, there will be no additional break weeks on the schedule.

As a long-time racing enthusiast who has followed the NASCAR season for years, I can’t help but feel excited about the upcoming race weekends. With this weekend marking the start of 14 consecutive races to end the season, it promises to be an action-packed and nail-biting experience.
