What's the story behind viral Star Trek: The Original Series photo?

As a long-time Star Trek enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when I see that iconic image of William Shatner, George Takei, and Walter Koeing together on the bridge of the Enterprise. These three legends have not only graced our screens for decades, but they’ve also been part of my childhood memories and countless late-night binge-watching sessions.

As a die-hard space explorer in the gaming world, I’ve got to hand it to the original Star Trek series – or as fans like me call it, Star Trek: The Original Series. It laid the foundation for this captivating, thrilling cosmos we’re all part of nowadays. The franchise nailed it with their distinctive and engaging narratives, blending in valuable life lessons that point towards a future brimming with success and unity.

Despite being portrayed as a model of unity in Star Trek, real-life interactions between the actors have not always mirrored this harmony. The longstanding feud between William Shatner and George Takei, who played James T. Kirk and Hikaru Sulu respectively, has been a subject of much discussion over the years. For decades, these two have had their fair share of disagreements.

Regardless of their past disagreements, these two actors occasionally share screen time, although it’s been less frequent lately. They were frequently seen together in appearances not so long ago. Being among the last three original cast members remaining, any instance they’re in the same location becomes a topic of interest. The third survivor from the original show is Walter Koenig, who Star Trek fans might recognize as Pavel Chekov.

The trio seldom cross paths, as King usually avoids the disagreements his co-stars have found themselves in throughout the years. However, whenever they do meet up, it’s always a thrilling occasion.

Recently, I stumbled upon a captivating photograph that sparked excitement among many of us Star Trek fans. It was shared across social media platforms like Twitter and showcases these three renowned actors standing proudly on the bridge of a newly constructed Enterprise set. However, I couldn’t help but wonder, what’s the tale behind this extraordinary snapshot?

To clarify, as reported by TrekkerScraopbook on their blog, an event took place at the 2016 Destination: Star Trek Convention in Birmingham, England. This special occasion showcased a rebuilt set for the convention, along with the presence of various figures from Star Trek’s history. Among these notable attendees were Adam Nimoy, son of the late Leonard Nimoy, as well as other individuals who had previously worked on the iconic series.

Despite the viral post’s caption suggesting these three men met up for a picture following their fellow actors’ demise, that’s actually not accurate. To clarify, this photo wasn’t taken as a celebration because they were the last remaining cast members, and it was snapped when Nichelle Nichols was still alive.

It seems highly unlikely that these three men will meet up again, so we’re grateful for platforms such as Trekker Scrapbook, which allows us to enjoy additional stunning pictures from their recent reunion.
