In 2021, the author told Collider that their representative had been reviewing their fanfiction on Archive of Our Own (AO3), and subsequently contacted them via a direct message.

She said, “‘I noticed your post mentioning the possibility of withdrawing and revising some of your stories. I thought I’d share that I’m a literary agent and I’d be keen to review some of your manuscripts, if you’re open to that idea.’

I selected what I believed to be my best workable fanfiction and submitted it to her for review. After that, we both made around 70 billion revisions, and eventually, I signed with her. An editor was also involved in the process.

Regarding the movie adaptation, Hazelwood expressed: “There’s a significant gap between books and films, but I have unwavering confidence in this exceptional crew. I am eagerly anticipating the outcome of their work. I only hope they enjoy the filming process as much as I did while penning the book.

The film adaptation of “The Love Hypothesis” is being overseen by Claire Scanlon, who previously directed “Set It Up”, while “The Sleepover’s” Sarah Rothschild is responsible for adapting the book for the silver screen.

Ridley herself responded to her husband’s role announcement by posting about it on Instagram Stories. Earlier, the actor had acknowledged the existence of the book from which this role is derived.
