As a long-time fan of SWAT, I find myself eagerly awaiting the eighth season, particularly for the character development of Victor Tan. His journey has been captivating, and his potential advancement in Season 7 left me on the edge of my seat. However, Deacon’s unexpected change of heart has left me a bit disheartened. I can’t help but feel that Tan might struggle to follow Deacon again, especially after preparing for the promotion he was denied.

In the TV series SWAT, Victor Tan’s storylines have often been deeply personal. However, during Season 7, there was a chance for him to climb higher in his professional life. So, what can we expect from Victor Tan in SWAT Season 8?

In the seventh season, it was announced that Deacon was planning to retire, passing his role as second-in-command to Tan, a decision I believe Hondo would have supported. As we move into SWAT Season 8, Tan remains one of only three original cast members and is now the third most experienced agent left on the team.

After reconsidering his decision, Deacon opted against retiring. He felt that this job was his mission, and Annie communicated that they needed to figure out a solution for balancing their careers around the children. This brings us to the question of what will happen with Tan now?

It’s only normal for Tan to feel a degree of displeasure towards Deacon, not because he doesn’t appreciate or comprehend his actions, but due to the dissatisfaction that arises from the situation. Tan was preparing to accept the promotion, but unfortunately, it seems like it won’t materialize now.

It seems logical to infer a hint of power competition arising here. In the 12th season of Chicago Fire, they skillfully portrayed this when Severide returned and Cruz was no longer the temporary Lieutenant for Squad 3. We might witness something similar unfolding with Tan, as he ponders his next steps.

As a gamer, I’ve been eagerly anticipating Deacon’s comeback, but it won’t be the same old story. For years, SWAT was my life, shared with Annie, but it seems like we need to adapt a bit. This could pave the way for Tan and me to strike a balance in our roles. The specifics of Deacon’s return will dictate how that balance unfolds.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that we’re welcoming some fresh faces to our team. One of these newcomers is Alfaro, who has been associated with Twenty Squad for some time now. It seems that there have been tensions between Tan and Alfaro, partly due to Alfaro’s behavior, which appears to stem from his level of maturity.

As Alfaro gains more knowledge through his team membership, things might evolve. Hondo has noticed something significant, and now Tan must have faith in Hondo. However, they may not become inseparable friends. Yet, even if they aren’t close outside of their teamwork, they can still act as brothers during their time together.

However, we also saw him start to move on with someone else. He’s interested in love again, and that’s setting things up for a bright personal future for Tan. Is he moving on a little too quickly? Maybe, but TV shows are all about the drama, right?
