Sony’s animated Spider-Man movies have become a fan favorite in the superhero world. Offering a fast-paced and visually impressive experience compared to live-action films, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse were widely praised by critics, comic book enthusiasts, and general audiences alike.
Instead of telling the usual story of Peter Parker as Spider-Man, the Spider-Verse movies explore the adventures of Spider-People from different universes, with Miles Morales taking center stage. These films have been both critically acclaimed and hugely popular with audiences, thanks in part to their incredible voice cast.
Even though the first two Spider-Verse movies were huge hits, the third film, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, has faced a lot of challenges getting to the big screen. Made at the same time as Across the Spider-Verse, Beyond the Spider-Verse has been delayed several times. But now, there’s finally some real news about when it will be released.

Initially, the creators planned to make Across and Beyond as one continuous sequel to Into the Spider-Verse, working on both movies at the same time. After deciding to split the story into two films, they scheduled Beyond for release in March 2024. However, because making the movies was so demanding, the team focused all their efforts on completing Across and also used the extra time to make improvements to both sequels.
Although Across the Spider-Verse came out in 2023, Beyond was delayed indefinitely because of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes, which prevented voice actors from working. Since then, figuring out when Beyond would be released became confusing, with different reports constantly pushing the date further into the future. The people making Beyond the Spider-Verse – including directors, producers, and studio executives – all agreed that the final movie in the trilogy deserved to be made carefully and shouldn’t be rushed.
The creators have officially announced that the final chapter in Miles Morales’ story will be released on June 18th, 2027. While the date could change, it’s far enough away that we can be confident the project will be finished on time.
Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Updates From The Cast & Filmmakers

Members of the voice cast have shared news about their contributions to the film, with work primarily taking place throughout 2025. Karan Soni, who voices Pavitr Prabhakar/Spider-Man Indi, mentioned in August 2024 that he would begin recording soon. However, Jharrel Jerome (Miles Morales/Prowler from Earth-42) stated in January 2025 that he hadn’t started recording his lines yet.
Shameik Moore, the voice of Miles Morales/Spider-Man, shared on Instagram that he was recording his part in August 2025. Hailee Steinfeld, who voices Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen, mentioned in October 2025 that she was also currently recording. Greta Lee, who plays the AI assistant Lyla in the Spider Society, had already finished recording her lines by September 2025.
During CinemaCon in March 2025, the team behind the next Spider-Verse movie – writer Phil Lord and directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson – explained that the delay until mid-2027 was to ensure the finale is perfect. They also shared a first glimpse of the film at the event, with some images appearing online, though they don’t spoil any key plot points. Composer Daniel Pemberton, who helped define the unique sound of the previous Spider-Verse films, is returning to create the score for this concluding chapter.
Brian Tyree Henry, who voices Miles’ father, has hinted that the next Spider-Verse movie will be very emotional, predicting audiences will likely cry. While Henry has shared this, other cast members, like Jason Schwartzman (who plays the villain Spot), haven’t revealed much about their involvement. Schwartzman wouldn’t say if he’s even begun recording his lines. Jake B. Johnson, the voice of Peter B. Parker, has even publicly stated he’s unsure if he’ll be in the third film, though the ending of Across the Spider-Verse suggests he probably will be.
Everything We Know About Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse

Most of the key characters from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse are expected to return in Beyond the Spider-Verse, and the original voice actors will reprise their roles. Across featured many brief voice cameos from famous faces like Andy Samberg, Jack Quaid, Rachel Dratch, Ziggy Marley, and Ayo Edibiri—often as part of the Spider-Society—but it’s currently unknown if they will appear in Beyond.

Phil Lord has revealed that Beyond the Spider-Verse will begin right after the dramatic ending of Across the Spider-Verse. That’s where Miles Morales found himself stuck in another universe, with no clear path home. He was last seen facing off against an alternate version of himself – but this version was The Prowler, not Spider-Man. Although it seemed like the other Miles might be a villain, many fans believe the two Miles will eventually join forces to save the day.
Miles Morales remains in conflict with most of the Spider Society, headed by Miguel O’Hara (Spider-Man 2099). Miguel wants to prevent Miles from altering established events, fearing it could destroy entire realities. Fortunately, Miles has support from his friends who were also in Into the Spider-Verse, as well as Hobie Brown (Spider-Punk), Pavitr Prabhakar (Spider-Man India), and Margo Kess (Spider-Byte). They all seemed prepared to help rescue Miles at the end of Across, even if it meant disobeying Miguel.
The biggest danger facing everyone is that Spot, the main villain, has become incredibly powerful and plans to change the entire multiverse. It looks like all the different Spider-People will have to team up to defeat him. And if recent comments are true, this fight might come at a great cost, with some of them potentially not surviving.
Even with any unexpected twists in the story, Spider-Man Beyond the Spider-Verse is still one of the most exciting movies coming out in 2027, especially considering how great the first two films were. It’s likely to be a strong finish to the Spider-Verse trilogy, potentially making it one of the best superhero series ever.
