Get ready for an exciting new season of the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) in 2026! The LEC is bringing some changes to how the competition works, and amazing players will be battling it out at the Riot Games Arena in Berlin. Here’s a look at what’s new this season!

Goodbye, Winter split. Hello, LEC Versus!

The LEC is making a big change at the start of the new year. Instead of the Winter split, we’ll have a new tournament called LEC Versus. The winning team will earn the only spot representing EMEA at The First Stand 2026, which will be held in Brazil!

This new tournament will start with a round-robin stage where 12 teams play each other once in a single match. The eight highest-performing teams will then move on to the playoffs, which will use a double-elimination format. The first two rounds of the playoffs will be best-of-three matches, but all matches after that will be best-of-five.

LEC Versus will pit the best emerging League of Legends players against established LEC professionals in a highly anticipated showdown. This promises to be a thrilling competition showcasing top talent.

The League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) isn’t offering regular qualifying spots, but instead extending special invitations to teams that have performed exceptionally well in regional leagues, according to an official announcement.

Los Ratones, the popular team created by Twitch streamer Caedrel, is among the first to be invited. They had a fantastic year, winning two EMEA Masters championships in a row, three straight NLC championships, and finishing in the top four of the Summer Split. Throughout 2025, Los Ratones proved they were a consistently powerful team in the ERLs.

The second team invited will be the winners of the 2025 EMEA Masters Summer tournament – a match between Karmine Corp Blue and Los Heretics on November 2nd. If a team from the LEC secondary league wins, they can still participate in the LEC Versus event. We’re also taking steps to make sure the competition remains fair.

LEC Spring and Summer Splits 2026

In 2026, the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) will feature ten partnered teams competing in both the Spring and Summer seasons. Expect thrilling matches and compelling narratives as teams battle for a chance to qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and the World Championship – the biggest tournaments in League of Legends.

Each competitive split will begin with a round-robin stage where all ten LEC teams play each other in best-of-three matches. The top teams will then advance to a best-of-five playoff bracket. Every match will be either best-of-three or best-of-five, offering fans more exciting gameplay and a better showcase of each team’s abilities and strategic flexibility.
