What we know about Hostage season 2 as it dominates the Netflix UK chart

Hostage spoilers follow.

Has the political thriller “Hostage” captivated audiences since its premiere a week ago, or is Netflix considering producing a second season for it?

In the show, Suranne Jones plays Abigail Dalton, the Prime Minister of the UK. At a meeting with French President Vivienne Toussaint, played by Julie Delpy, her world is thrown into chaos as her husband Alex (Ashley Thomas) gets abducted.

In a surprising twist, the last installment of the five-episode thriller leaves viewers speculating about potential sequels, as Abigail unexpectedly announces a general election at its conclusion.

In an interview with RadioTimes.com, writer-creator Matt Charman expressed his enthusiasm for potentially continuing the story, stating, “I’d be thrilled to delve deeper into this narrative, not only because I enjoy writing for Suranne, but also because there’s so much more to explore.

I find it intriguing as well to consider who her future rival could be. Who will be her counterpart in the next challenge perhaps? I’d jump at the opportunity to explore this further if given a chance.

It’s worth noting that continuously involving hostage situations for the same characters in the show might stretch the limits of realism. However, Charman clarified that the title encompasses multiple meanings.

As a gamer, when discussing that TV series, it’s not just about Alex for me. Instead, my focus is primarily on the two leaders. In my mind, they are like the characters who are under control – the hostages, if you will. They are the ones being manipulated and threatened with dire consequences.

The speaker went on to explain, “Basically, I’d like to delve deeper into the concept implied by the term ‘hostage’. What does it mean to be dominated by another? This is the direction I might take.

Although Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed a second season, the series has already achieved tremendous popularity among viewers. In fact, it quickly climbed to the highest spot on Netflix’s TV rankings shortly after its debut.

Hostage is streaming now on Netflix.
