What the stars of iconic fitness show Aerobics Oz Style look like now
Reflecting on the remarkable lives of these Australian fitness icons, I am truly inspired by their unwavering dedication to health and wellness. Each woman has not only shaped the landscape of Australian fitness but also paved their own unique paths, demonstrating that with hard work, passion, and perseverance, one can achieve great things.
In the realm of early morning TV, it was a colossal figure who inspired countless Australians to commence their day with gentle exercise routines.
Even though Aerobics Oz Style hasn’t been broadcast for almost twenty years, it continues to hold a cherished spot in our shared memories.
For a staggering 23 years, the highly acclaimed series aired consistently on Channel Ten, debuting in 1982 and running without pause until its cancellation in 2005.
Originating from the mind of entrepreneur Harry Michaels, who previously appeared on the legendary Australian show Number 96, Aerobics Oz Style provided a unique opportunity for viewers to exercise at famous Sydney spots right from the convenience of their own homes.
For over two decades, the structure of this show remained consistent. Every episode lasted for about half an hour, broken down into four parts: an opening segment to get started, two primary workout sections, and a closing segment to wind down.
Each show was centred around a theme including legs, and abdominals, with the likes of kick-boxing, Latin dancing and pilates included in later episodes.
The program gained significant popularity and even crossed over into popular culture, with the unique aerobics outfits sported by the actors contributing notably to this success.
Additionally, it unintentionally drew in an unsuspecting crowd of kids from the ’90s, as they turned on their TVs prematurely to tune in to Cheez TV, a beloved program that followed the main broadcast.
However, it might be the hosts, who for years put on their Lycra suits as the day began and motivated Australians to exercise, that made this famous program particularly appealing.
So, what do the presenters of Aerobics Oz Style look like now?
June Jones
From 1983 to 2005, June Jones was a prominent cast member and served the longest among his colleagues on the show, being one of its earliest leading stars.
Currently, June serves as a Pilates instructor at Flow Physio in Randwick, while also being certified in Iyengar yoga instruction.
Currently, I instruct both yoga and pilates, and I collaborate extensively with physical therapists in the area of rehabilitative fitness. This aspect of my work is incredibly fulfilling because I get to aid individuals in managing their body’s well-being, as June shared with Daily Mail Australia back in 2017.
I maintain an energetic daily routine that includes regular exercise, and I never miss a workout. Each morning finds me up at the crack of dawn for yoga and meditation. Afterward, I dive into my day’s work, followed by various activities in the evening based on my energy levels.
Taryn Polovin
From 1998 to 2005, Taryn served as a prominent host for the show, but she didn’t stop there. She remains actively engaged in the fitness world, taking on roles as a nutrition expert and personal fitness instructor.
According to her website, is the sole pilates contributor for Oxygen magazine.
In 2017, Taryn, a mom of three, shared with Daily Mail Australia that while she was engrossed in studying, her friend suggested they talk to the Oz Style team about their program. Suddenly, I found myself on it, and let me tell you, it was an exhilarating experience!
‘It was hard work we were filming 20 shows in two days sometimes so we were very, very fit.’
Wendi Carrol
Wendi starred on the show as a lead presenter from 1990 until the show’s conclusion.
The fitness guru is still very active in the wellness community, works as a personal trainer.
As a dedicated admirer, I’ve been keeping tabs on this fitness powerhouse, and here’s what I’ve gathered: She’s got the dual role of being a freelance coach, honing her skills across various platforms, and a group instructor at Fitness First Bondi. In other words, she’s keeping fit folks like me in tip-top shape!
Wendi continues to amaze many with her well-maintained physique and vibrant appearance, an achievement she attributes to her consistent active living, genetic factors, and balanced approach.
Wendi shared with Daily Mail Australia that, in addition to her teaching duties, she also engages in personal weight training and cardio exercises. However, she admitted that she doesn’t particularly enjoy these activities, but does them because they are beneficial for her health. On a more positive note, Wendi expressed her passion for dancing, stating that she truly loves to dance.
Dancing I do because I love it and often do salsa classes,’ Wendi told Daily Mail Australia.
Jodie Low
Jodie Low started as a demonstrator on the show in 1996, continuing until 2002.
She was also crowned the winner of Miss Fitness Australia in 1996.
Apart from that, Jodie remains quite engaged within the fitness circle, operating her personal Pilates and coaching venture, which she brands as Jodie Low Fitness online.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Jodie specializes in creating customized workout programs that cater to both group and individual fitness needs, encompassing a spectrum from intense high-performance training to corrective exercises.
Helen Tardent
In the year 2000, Helen began working as a Pilates instructor on Aerobics Oz Style, a role she maintained till the end of the series.
Previously, she was a dance professional at the prestigious London Royal Academy of Dance. Now, she manages her own Pilates studio located in Double Bay, Sydney.
Currently, Helen remains an integral figure within the Australian fitness scene, operating her private pilates studio, named Pilates Moves, situated in Sydney’s Double Bay.
As a devoted follower, I proudly share that I had the honor of being Australia’s pioneer Matwork and Reformer group instructor and trainer at the studio where I work.
