Return to Paradise season two has released its first images, giving fans a glimpse of what’s coming up for detective sergeant Mackenzie Clarke (Anna Samson) and her former fiancé, Glenn (Tai Hara).
The first season of the Death in Paradise spin-off featured the former couple, Mackenzie and Glenn, reconnecting after Mackenzie unexpectedly came back to Dolphin Cove. At the end of the season, Glenn surprised everyone by confessing he still had feelings for Mackenzie, even though he had just gotten engaged.
He confessed something to their dog, Frankie, and Mackenzie happened to overhear it. This probably explained why she decided to remain on the island, even though she’d repeatedly stated she wanted to return to London to be with her ex, Death in Paradise DI Jack Mooney (Ardal O’Hanlon).

Although the initial series showed a lot of longing between the two characters, early images indicate that they haven’t acted on those emotions yet. It seems their feelings remain unexpressed.
While the standard photo of Mackenzie, with her characteristic serious look, suggests only that the DS is focused on a fresh investigation, other images reveal much more.
The promotional clips also show Mackenzie and her colleague, senior constable Colin Cartwright (Lloyd Griffith), in her car. Between them is a life-size cardboard cutout of her ex-fiancé, Glenn, with the top part of his body missing.

It seemed like preparations for Glenn’s stag do were well underway, as the 2D Glenn indicated. This was later officially confirmed by a BBC press release, which stated: “Mackenzie’s efforts to avoid Glenn’s wedding are complicated when Colin pitches in to organize his stag party.”
The image is fairly clear, but it’s not immediately obvious what Mackenzie is thinking or feeling, and how that might impact the central, forbidden romance. It leaves you wondering what her expression really means for the story.
Mackenzie spent much of the season trying to ignore her developing feelings for Glenn. However, as the season progressed, she started to come to terms with the possibility that she still had romantic feelings for him.

Viewers of the series have likely noticed the DS’s calm and quiet personality, making her visibly upset and disappointed expression quite unusual.
Her expression indicates she’s lost hope for a romantic future with him and has come to terms with the fact that Glenn and Daisy (Andrea Demetriades) are getting married.
However, they also state that she has decided to stop avoiding her feelings for Glenn. She’s no longer willing to pretend they don’t exist, as she used to do, and is ready to confront them. She won’t return to a state of denial, ignoring what she feels.

The BBC also suggested this in their recent press release, which explained: “In addition to solving crimes, Mackenzie is put in a difficult position when Glenn admits he still has romantic feelings for her. This happens while he’s preparing to marry Daisy, and it makes Mackenzie’s own feelings for him even more complicated.”
Viewers have discovered that Detective Mackenzie is someone who can’t stand leaving things unfinished. This means the romantic tension and uncertainty between the characters is still ongoing and far from being resolved. The will-they-won’t-they storyline is definitely not over yet.
It looks like Glenn and Mackenzie will have ample opportunity to explore their feelings for each other, as a new photo reveals the forensic pathologist and Mackenzie working in close proximity. Given that they’ve always connected through their shared work, it’s reasonable to believe that romantic sparks will likely develop in that environment.

It’s unclear if those emotions will emerge before Glenn’s wedding. A new preview photo from the BBC reveals Mackenzie looking dressed up, hinting she’s going to a significant event.
Will those important revelations be made close to the wire? Viewers will have to wait to see.
Meanwhile, Mackenzie isn’t the only character grappling with their history. A press release reveals that when Colin’s old friends from his hometown show up, it begins to unravel the reasons why he left his previous life and settled in the close-knit town of Dolphin Cove. This arrival starts to explain his decision to start over and build a new life there.
Viewers will be happy to hear that O’Hanlon is returning to play Mooney in another guest appearance.
