As a woman who has spent far too many years navigating the often turbulent waters of body image and self-esteem, I find the efforts being made by Victoria’s Secret to be both encouraging and long overdue. Growing up, I was bombarded with unrealistic ideals of beauty that left me feeling less than perfect, and it seems that many young girls experienced the same discomfort from the PINK line.

The iconic Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show made a thrilling comeback in New York City on Tuesday evening, following a five-year break.

These fashion icons – Candice Swanepoel, Lila Moss, Gigi Hadid, and Barbara Palvin – demonstrated that they too prepare for a grand evening much like we do, by getting ready in front of a mirror before stepping out to showcase their style on the runway.

2019 saw the cancellation of the fashion show following disappointing ratings and numerous contentious issues. Since then, it’s been striving to promote inclusivity.

Now, after a prolonged hiatus, the models have returned, and there was much activity backstage before the celebrities made their grand entrance on the runway.

In a dressing gown, Candice smiled brightly as a professional hairstylist worked on her long, elegant blond hair, while Gigi enjoyed being beautified by a skillful makeup artist, gazing at herself in the mirror.

Most stars, among them Barbara Palvin, donned identical light pink and white striped dresses layered over their lingerie, while preparing for the event.

Barbara showcased an ample figure in her dress, and she was lively backstage as she prepared for the event.

Her tresses were clipped back as she prepared for her glam routine. 

In the room filled with mirrors, Lila, Kate Moss’ daughter, sat down for some beauty treatment, as evident when she was attended to by a skilled makeup artist.

Other familiar faces included models Adriana Lima and Taylor Hill. 

As an ardent admirer, I find myself reminiscing about the unforgettable moments I’ve witnessed backstage with the incredible Adriana. With her hair perfectly styled in a polished ponytail, she prepared for yet another stunning walk down the VS runway.

Irina Shayk also was among the big names preparing for the spotlight. 

She freshened up with a face mask as a hairstylist worked on her glossy waves.

Joan Smalls found time for some social interaction while getting ready for her chance on center stage.

As the model’s hairdressers prepared her hair, they warmly welcomed Gigi. Moments later, she settled down with her headphones on, ready to go.

Among those receiving hair and makeup preparations in 2019 was Valentina Sampaio, who had been employed as Victoria’s Secret’s inaugural transgender model.

She got her skin rejuvenated with two eye masks as her hair was prepped.

Alessandra Ambrosio and Ashley Graham were also seen undergoing hair and makeup. 

The brand dropped video of the models prepping backstage, which concluded with a shot of Gigi saying, ‘See you on the runway.’

The styling for hair and makeup is underway! Excitement is building as the models eagerly anticipate strutting their stuff on the catwalk in their dazzling looks.

From the sight of the iconic pink gowns worn by the ladies backstage, it seems the brand is heading back to its lavish beginnings.

Although it’s been five years since the runway show took place, last year, the company presented Victoria’s Secret ‘The Tour’, a reimagined, behind-the-scenes feature-length production that spotlighted rising global trendsetters instead of just models in lingerie.

As a lifestyle aficionado, I’m thrilled to announce that this year, we’re seeing the comeback of the much-anticipated Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which took a five-year break due to some challenging times for the brand. It’s an exciting moment for fashion enthusiasts everywhere!

The show took place at the Victoria’s Secret flagship store in New York City. 

Cher, Tyla, and Blackpink member Lisa were this year’s musical guests.  

Originally launched in 1995, this show was initially graced by a galaxy of stars from the modeling industry, boasting names like Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, Gisele Bundchen, among others.

Notably, it included live music shows starring artists such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and The Weeknd.

However, the company decided to terminate the show and eliminate the Victoria’s Secret Angel role in 2019, due to backlash over a lack of representation of diverse body types and backgrounds within their model lineup.

2020 saw a New York Times article emerge with claims of misogynistic behavior, bullying, and sexual harassment against the ex-Chief Marketing Officer, Ed Razek.

Additionally, it noted apprehensions regarding the long-standing relationship between Leslie Wexner, CEO of L Brands, and the imprisoned felon Jeffrey Epstein before his passing in jail.

Epstein was awaiting trial on charging of sex trafficking minors at the time of his death.

The three-part series included claims of body shaming, misogyny, and discomfort that the PINK line, which was aimed at tweens and teenagers, made girls feel bad about themselves.

Victoria’s Secret was separated from the parent company in 2021.

It’s aiming to restore its prestige and grip over its segment of the profitable lingerie market.

The models they use come in a variety of ethnicities and body types, much like the Savage X Fenty campaigns and shows spearheaded by the innovative Rihanna.
