Does Song die in Foundation Season 3 Episode 3?
In Foundation Season 3 Episode 3, I’m happy to confirm that Song doesn’t meet her end. Yet, a poignant twist unfolds as Demerzel wipes away Song’s precious memories.
In the third episode of Season 3 titled “When a Book Finds You,” Brother Day presents an offer to Mavon. If Mavon assists Day and Song in fleeing the palace without informing Demerzel, Dusk, and Dawn, Day will guarantee that Mavon and his family attain their long-desired freedom. To make the deal more appealing, given its high risk, Day proposes that Mavon will receive wealth sufficient to buy an entire planet and Imperial nanites, a technology that can potentially cure Mavon’s ill daughter. Intrigued by this opportunity for his family’s wellbeing, Mavon agrees to think over Day’s proposition.
In the afternoon, Day and Song decide to stroll towards their villa, taking a detour first because Day wants to maintain some space from Demerzel. Unaware of Day’s apprehension, Song can’t fathom it. This causes Day to reveal that Demerzel is a robot. At first, Song doubts this revelation, but as she gathers more information about Demerzel, she comes to accept that Day was truthful.
Later on, Song and Day start preparing for their journey, but Song expresses her reservations towards Day’s plan. She proposes that they remain under Demerzel’s supervision instead of fleeing. Before Day could persuade Song to stick with their initial plan, Demerzel arrives, instructing Day to meet Dusk at the palace. In the meantime, unnoticed by Day, Song sends a covert signal to Demerzel. However, Demerzel deems it insignificant compared to the significance of the Imperial gathering.
At the conclusion of the episode, Day makes his way back to their shared villa with Song, following Mavon’s assurance that he could assist them in leaving the palace. Regrettably, upon arrival, Demerzel is there to greet him. She informs Day that she had dispatched Song back to her residence in the Mycogen district and wiped her memories clean. In response to his confusion, Demerzel clarifies that Song’s faith in Inheritance – a belief system venerating robots – was the driving force behind her return home.
