What happened to Kate Dixon in Law & Order? (Was Camryn Manheim’s exit explained?)
As a dedicated fan who has been following Law & Order since its inception, I must admit that the sudden departure of Camryn Manheim as Lt. Kate Dixon left me feeling a bit like a kid on their first day at school without their favorite teacher – a tad lost and disoriented.
It’s undeniable that we were disheartened to learn about another cast shift before Law & Order Season 24 commenced, as Camryn Manheim has departed the show. Regrettably, we didn’t receive a farewell for Lt. Kate Dixon.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from Law & Order Season 24’s premiere.
Occasionally, the series “Law & Order” undergoes changes during different seasons. Sometimes, these alterations are due to creative choices made by the show, and other times, they’re a result of actor decisions. In this instance, it appears that the show itself decided to mix things up, and we’re left wondering about how we feel regarding this change.
A series must continually offer something new, and character swaps help achieve this. Yet, it’s essential to allow these characters to continue their journey for several more seasons before they bid farewell.
Where is Lt. Kate Dixon in Law & Order?
Changing the cast from one season to another often means not getting a proper farewell, and unfortunately, in this instance, we won’t have the chance to witness Dixon’s departure as the sun sets on the horizon.
As a devoted viewer, it seems like Riley and Shaw weren’t even prepared for a change in the lieutenant role, as Lt. Jessica Brady walked onto the crime scene yet again, expressing her puzzlement for the third time about Dixon’s whereabouts. Will this mystery surrounding Dixon’s disappearance continue to unfold, or is the show intentionally leaving us hanging by not providing a resolution?
I’m really looking forward to the possibility that this issue gets resolved down the line. It would be exciting to witness Dixon getting into trouble again. Perhaps she was given a covert assignment without anyone knowing, or maybe there’s a compelling reason why she needed to enter some form of protective custody. However, considering how Law & Order, like other Dick Wolf productions, often leaves certain aspects unresolved, it might not be fully explained.
Law & Order Season 24 airs Thursdays at 8/7c on NBC. Catch up the following day on Peacock.
