What Happened Behind the Scenes at the Dancing On Ice Final: Emotional Moments and Hidden Jokes
In a thrilling conclusion on Sunday evening, Sam Aston and his professional partner Molly Lanaghan emerged victorious as the champions in the seventeenth season of Dancing on Ice.
In a surprising turn of events, the Coronation Street actor managed to edge out favorites Michaela Strachan and Mark Hanretty in what might have been the last-ever final for this popular ITV program.
Despite rumors that the program may be temporarily suspended due to potential cancellation, TopMob recently visited the lively event held at Bovingdon Airfield. Here’s an exclusive account of the behind-the-scenes happenings during times when the cameras were not filming.
Before the show commenced, there was a lively buzz in the studio, as the audience was engaged with pre-show entertainment until it was time for the live broadcast to start.
The main performers emerged on the ice, greeted by a thunderous round of applause, as they rehearsed their acts in preparation for the upcoming live performance.
Additionally, the presenters stepped forward to rehearse their transition, where Holly Willoughby strolled elegantly onto the stage, while Stephen Mulhern made an entrance in a massive roller skate that was towed by four experts.

They chuckled as soon as the cameras ceased recording, with Stephen exclaiming, “Now, truthfully, how do I escape?” just before the experts whirled him around multiple times while the audience shouted for more, leaving him feeling dizzy.
In the audience, there was Rio Ferdinand, who made a last-minute appearance right before the live performance began, taking his seat amidst the families of the finalists.
He seemed utterly dejected upon learning that his brother Anton had placed third, for this meant he would not have the chance to perform the Bolero.
Yet Anton was quick to offer reassurance, mouthing to Rio off camera: ‘It’s alright’.
It was an emotional night for all as the team celebrated Torvill and Dean’s last ever skate on TV.
They’ve affirmed that they plan to appear in upcoming seasons of Dancing on Ice, but they won’t be dancing.
At the final moments of the show, viewers could clearly see their shock as Sam, a cast member from Corrie, unexpectedly defeated Michaela to claim the title of winner.
Meanwhile, on the ice, everyone was focusing on Michaela’s partner Mark, who revealed his decision to leave the show last year after a long tenure of 12 years.

Following the conclusion of the show, the cast seemed quite emotional as they bid farewell to each other, with everyone giving Mark a warm embrace.
Without any lingering bitterness evident, Michaela and Sam exchanged a heartwarming hug while she warmly congratulated him for his impressive victory.
The evening culminated in an extravagant after-event, complete with beverages, a stocked Gregg’s food cart, and numerous picture-worthy moments.
Since this is probably their final gathering as a cast, they decided to wrap up the series elegantly and honorably, celebrating Sam and Molly in a special way.
Despite all the news reports, the cast and crew made no mention of the series not returning.
The future of the show is uncertain, as an insider reportedly expressed worries to The Mirror about declining ratings potentially leading to the cancellation of the ice skating program following its 20-year run.
In the past two years, viewership for Dancing On Ice has decreased significantly, dropping by more than a million viewers. During its 2023 debut, the show attracted 4.1 million viewers, but not one episode during this season managed to surpass the 3 million mark.
A source said: ‘There are very real fears this is the end of the road for Dancing on Ice.’

They added: ‘For almost two decades, it has enjoyed a strong following with devoted fans who truly appreciate it. However, the hard fact remains that its audience base isn’t substantial enough.’
We require more people attending, but the attendance numbers have decreased significantly, making it challenging to sustain the expenses involved.
A representative from ITV stated that the team behind Dancing on Ice is currently focused on the upcoming series finale scheduled for this Sunday, so no decision has been made yet.
Dancing On Ice first aired in 2006 and initially ended in 2014. The series was revived in 2018.
