What Captain America: Brave New World does that no other MCU movie has
The film “Captain America: Brave New World” has faced criticism as a repetition of past Marvel films, yet it introduces an element unprecedented within the annals of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
In a different yet straightforward way, let me put it: The latest Captain America film opens with a bold Marvel Studios emblem in black and white, simply saying “Marvel Studios Presents.” This design resembles that of the initial trailer, giving off an impression of a heavily censored document.
So what? You might think.
In other words, “Captain America: Brave New World” is the initial Marvel Cinematic Universe film without the well-known Marvel Studios title card and music cue, which resembles the turning of comic book pages.
In other Marvel Cinematic Universe films, they’ve occasionally altered the logo, like in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” where they omitted the usual music and instead displayed clips of Chadwick Boseman as a touching tribute.
In Captain Marvel, they modified the logo to solely showcase Stan Lee, whereas Avengers: Endgame strategically eliminated all characters who had been ‘dusted’ in Avengers: Infinity War from their footage.
As a dedicated Marvel fan, I can’t help but notice that each Marvel Cinematic Universe film up until “Captain America: Brave New World” has prominently featured the Marvel Studios logo in some way, tracing all the way back to “Iron Man”. While the design of this logo may have evolved since Phase 1, it remains a constant element that I eagerly look forward to seeing at the start of every Marvel adventure.
Brave New World doesn’t follow the same formula as previous films indicates something fresh and different.
It remains uncertain if the opening logos of this year’s other Marvel Cinematic Universe releases, namely Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, will follow suit in alteration.
Nonetheless, there’s a chance we may have figured out the significance of the asterisk at the end of the title regarding Thunderbolts*.
Captain America: Brave New World is out now in cinemas.
