Like in all Monster Hunter games, getting the best decorations is the ultimate goal in Monster Hunter Stories 3. By this point, you’ll have most of your gear, so you’re focused on maximizing its power.
As a big fan of Stories 3, I’ve noticed that getting Decorations mostly comes down to maxing out your weapons and armor. Honestly, it kind of means you need to collect every armor set just to get all the Decorations! There are tons of options, but after a lot of playing, I’ve figured out which ones are really worth going for.
Look, there are tons of awesome decorations out there, way more than I could list here. I tried to focus on the ones I always find helpful, but honestly, a lot of decorations are super useful depending on the situation. It really just depends on what you’re trying to do!
Critical
To make things easier for most RPG players, Stories simplifies a game mechanic called Affinity, renaming it Crit Rate. And, as you’d guess, Crit Rate is a really useful stat.
Critical Rating simply boosts your chance to land a critical hit. Unlike flat increases, it adds a percentage to your existing Crit Rate, meaning it combines effectively with any other Crit Rate bonuses you have.
Evasion Ability
Stories 3 doesn’t have a dedicated Evasion stat. Instead, your Speed controls both when you take your turn in battle and how likely you are to dodge attacks. However, you can boost your Dodge Rate during combat.
You can improve this even more with the Evasion Ability Decoration. Just like bonuses to your critical hit rate, this effect stacks with others. This means that if you increase your chance to dodge during a fight, the Evasion Ability becomes even more effective.
Defense And Attack Boosts
Decorations that boost elemental damage or resistance are straightforward, yet valuable. Weapons naturally deal a specific type of elemental damage, while armor provides built-in resistance to all elements.
Attack Boost decorations increase your damage with a specific element. Defense Boost decorations, on the other hand, improve your resistance to damage, and the amount of improvement depends on the decoration’s level.
HtH Master
In Stories 3, understanding enemy attack types is key to winning battles. Knowing this helps you deal more damage, take less, and land Double Attacks more easily.
Head-to-Heads already boost your Kinship, and Double Attacks increase it even further. With the HtH Master skill, your Kinship Gauge will fill up incredibly quickly.
Crit-Heal
In Stories 3, because it’s a turn-based game, deciding when to heal requires careful planning. Do you give up a turn attacking to recover health? Having a way to slowly regain health automatically makes this decision simpler.
Okay, so Crit-Heal is pretty straightforward – whenever I land a critical hit, it heals me back some health! The better the decoration is leveled up, the more health I get back with each crit. It’s awesome when I’m already building a crit-focused build, totally synergizes with it.
Critical Kinship
The Kinship Gauge allows you to ride your Monsties during battles. While mounted, you can fill the gauge to use powerful Kinship Skills.
Increasing how quickly your gauge fills is always beneficial, making Critical Kinship essential. It fills the gauge with each Critical Hit, and better Decorations provide an even faster fill rate.
Tenacity
Tenacity is a really helpful stat. Later in the game, you’ll face powerful monsters that can defeat you with just one hit if your defense is low.
Tenacity can save you from being defeated. If your health is above 50%, it will protect you from any attack that would normally knock you out. Better Decorations mean you’ll regain more health when Tenacity activates.
As a fan, I’ve learned that the Anti-One-Hit-KO mechanic is really specific. It only protects you from attacks that will definitely take you out in a single hit – not just really strong attacks that could potentially kill you. It’s a crucial distinction!
Weak Point
Stories 3 features three main attack types, each with two corresponding weapons. Every monster has a vulnerability to at least one of these attack types, and these weaknesses are indicated by specific body parts.

Using the right weapon type against a monster part will maximize your damage, and the Weak Point Decoration will boost your critical hit chance even more when you hit those spots. Since critical hits deal extra damage to monster parts, this combination is incredibly effective.
Elemental Breaker And Assault
Simply reducing a monster’s health to zero isn’t enough to win quickly. Instead of only focusing on HP, prioritize damaging specific Monster Parts and filling the Wyvernsoul Gauge – these will significantly speed up the battle.
Using Elemental Breaker and Assault increases your damage to monster parts and fills your Wyvernsoul Gauge faster when you exploit a monster’s elemental weakness. Essentially, it lets you pile on even more damage.
Heroic Testament
Heroic Testament is a top-tier decoration in the game, but it’s difficult to obtain. You unlock it by defeating an Elder Dragon without driving it away. The more Elder Dragons you defeat, the more powerful the decoration becomes.
Heroic Testament is a fantastic item that significantly boosts your health, damage output, and damage reduction – all without any drawbacks or special requirements. It provides a powerful, all-around improvement to your character.
