Wendy Williams: Trapped in $18K/month Memory Unit, Fights for Freedom
Wendy Williams recently provided an insight into her current well-being while residing in a monthly assisted living home costing approximately $18,000 in New York City.
On the NewsNation broadcast of Thursday, the 60-year-old ex-talk show host, fresh from celebrating her father’s 94th birthday, expressed that she doesn’t feel like being present.
As a captive audience in my current abode, I can hardly perform any activity at will, I lament to confess.
She shared that her current location is on the fifth floor, specifically known as the “memory unit.” This area is designed for individuals struggling with memory loss. After spending nearly a year here and interacting with the residents, she expressed that it feels incredibly restrictive.
She asked, “This is the storage area we’re talking about, right? I’m confused as to why I’m here.” I replied, “I’m not sure either, but let me tell you it costs $18,000 per month, which is quite pricey. All I get for that is a bedroom, a bathroom, and a window.
In my line of work as a lifestyle expert, I often discuss the challenges faced by individuals residing in memory care units. These precious souls are under medication, finding it difficult to perform basic self-care tasks like showering on their own or brushing their teeth without assistance.

She stressed during our online chat that it essentially involves staying in this particular structure, and she has spent more than three years within this ward.
Previously known as a radio host, currently under conservatorship, expressed strongly, ‘It’s been a while. I’m eager to leave. I’m eager to depart and be free from this guardianship. It feels oppressive. It’s incredibly isolating.’
Even though there were limitations at the facility, Wendy managed to arrange a celebration for her father’s birthday in Miami during mid-February.
A post on social media, shared by her 24-year-old son Kevin, read: ‘Overjoyed that I managed to fulfill your wish, Papa… I promised I’d find a way and true to my word, I did.’
In the year 2022, it was decided that Williams would assume the role of a court-appointed guardian, following claims of her being diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia and Primary Progressive Aphasia.
In February 2024, her healthcare team disclosed the diagnosis, but she’s been battling against it, challenging the validity of the predicted outcome.
As reported by TMZ, Williams has recently sworn an affidavit urging a judge to terminate her conservatorship agreement, currently managed by Sabrina Morrissey.
It’s been reported that she will undergo an evaluation by a physician chosen by her lawyers to assess whether she is capable of managing her affairs independently again.
It’s been mentioned that insiders believe her personal lawyers, whom she retained to terminate her guardianship following her decision to replace her court-assigned lawyer last month, are planning to petition the court for an urgent hearing in order to scrutinize and potentially end the guardianship.

In legal documents seen by People last November, Morrissey stated that Williams is mentally incapable, permanently disabled, and unable to act legally.
Television producer Suzanne Bass vouched for Wendy on Thursday in a video shared on Instagram.
For many years now, I hadn’t received a call or message from Wendy. That changed last week when my phone suddenly rang, and to my surprise, it was Wendy herself. In a heartfelt moment, she shared this news with me, and as we spoke, both of us shed tears.
She commented, “She is sounding amazing. She has never sounded better in such a long time. Since then, I have been discovering more and more about her life, the hardships she’s faced, the struggles she endures currently, as well as her unfortunate guardianship situation.
Day after day, I can’t help but champion the cause of #FreeWendy! She deserves nothing less than our endless love and encouragement. Let’s keep sending her our heartfelt prayers and positive vibes!
