Wendy Williams drops bombshell on guardianship as lawyer vows to sue over ‘incarceration’ and ‘misdiagnosis’

Wendy Williams has shared significant developments regarding the contentious guardianship situation, which seems poised for a heated legal battle.

Previously acclaimed talk show host, known for her daytime television reign, recently emerged for a seldom public outing to mark her 61st birthday on Saturday. Since being subjected to a court-appointed guardianship in 2022, she has been residing at an upscale senior care home in New York.

In simpler terms, due to worries about her mental health and potential financial abuse, her bank, Wells Fargo, reported her situation to the court. As a result, a court-appointed guardian was given authority over her personal and financial matters.

2023 saw Williams being diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia and Aphasia, which led to speculation regarding her capability to handle her personal affairs independently.

As I’ve clearly expressed, I’m ready for a change, asserting that I’m fully capable and yearning for autonomy rather than feeling controlled unwillingly.

It was on a Wednesday when she was seen with influential lawyer Joe Tacopina outside Scott’s eatery in New York City. They indicated that a legal action is imminent.

According to Tacopina, speaking with TMZ, those in charge of her confinement will face consequences for their actions regarding her situation. There’s absolutely no doubt about it.

He didn’t hold back, adding: ‘This guardian process is scary. She was misdiagnosed.’

Tacopina went on to say, ‘I hope the next step brings justice.’ He added, ‘The pace of this process has been incredibly aggravatingly sluggish.’

In a friendly gesture, I pointed towards Wendy and remarked, “Meet Wendy, the very same Wendy with whom I’ve exchanged thoughts for about half a year now. Yes, it’s the same Wendy Williams you recognize from television. Similar to me, she deserves professional care in a suitable facility.

As a committed admirer, I find myself compelled to express that she possesses an admirable mastery over her mental abilities, making her a truly exceptional individual. Yet, it gnaws at my core… This is not merely a matter for me to ponder, it’s a mission I feel compelled to take up.

Wendy burst out laughing as she declared, ‘I’ve just celebrated my birthday and I’m still under guardianship. If this fact alone isn’t revealing enough, I’m at a loss for what else could be.’

Tacopina concluded emphatically, ‘For now, my utmost focus is on ensuring she returns safely home.’

He added, ‘Wherever home is… where she can come and go as she pleases.’

In 2022, Wendy came under the care of Sabrina Morrissey as her legal guardian. An astonishing court document filed in November revealed that Morrissey stated Williams is ‘permanently disabled’ because of her ongoing struggle with dementia.

In March, Wendy took a daring step by hiring a fresh legal group with the aim of advocating for her liberty and overturning the court-imposed agreement.

Instead of hiring Tacopina (who has just defended A$AP Rocky), the celebrity enlisted his services to aid in breaking free from a three-year long conservatorship.

Since then, a #FreeWendy movement has gained momentum.

In an emotionally charged scene recorded in early April, Williams could be observed pounding on the facility’s window, while a crowd of her supporters gathered in the street below, vocally advocating for her release.
