Wendy Williams Denies Dementia and Weighs In on Conservatorship Battle

Wendy Williams has stated that she does not have dementia, and she also addressed the possibility of collaborating with the network Lifetime once more following a contentious lawsuit and conservatorship proceedings.

The surprise came when the ex-talk show host, who is now 60 years old, announced her intention to collaborate with the A&E subsidiary once more. This decision comes even though she and her legal conservators took legal action against them last year following the release of their documentary, which caused a dispute between them.

On Wednesday, she made an appearance on The Breakfast Club podcast where she expressed disagreement with the lawsuit that her temporary guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, had initiated against A&E back in November.

Wendy made clear that if the lawsuit goes her way, she’ll receive a $20 million prize. However, she strongly disliked the four-part documentary series. Despite this, she remains open to collaborating with the network in the future.

She expressed that she’s not interested in the type of money being discussed, given her history of collaborating with Lifetime on multiple projects. In fact, she’d be thrilled to work with them again on something new.

‘They are good people to me and I am good people to them.’

In addition, Wendy asserted that she does not suffer from Frontotemporal Dementia, contrary to what has been suggested, and that she is not impaired in any way.

Previously, she mentioned that the arrangement for producing the “Where Is Wendy Williams?” docuseries was made specifically for her.

She also said: ‘I only watched [the docuseries] once and I will never watch again in life. 

We found it rather distressing, and interestingly enough, my caregiver was there to witness it as well. Yes, we watched it side by side for the first time. This was the instance where my caregiver exclaimed “oh my gosh” and started taking notes. I was just as taken aback, saying something like “Oh my god,” if you catch my drift? So, could you tell me what exactly transpired here?

Weeks have passed since I’ve heard those revelations from her family, following her assertion that she had no prior encounter with her attorney handling the guardianship case.

In May 2023, the host of the talk show was placed under guardianship and received diagnoses of aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. Lately, this individual criticized attorney Roberta Kaplan for claiming that she would need lifelong care, even though it’s alleged that Kaplan never personally met her.

According to a statement made exclusively to DailyMail.com, Williams’ family is actively seeking a different attorney to assist them in their efforts to terminate the current guardianship.

Recently, in a conversation with TMZ, Williams expressed strong disagreement over her guardianship attorney Kaplan’s statement that she experiences both good and bad days. Her family, who have initiated a GoFundMe campaign to help end her guardianship, are working towards ensuring her independence.

Wendy asserted that the lawyer lacks the necessary experience to assess her mental condition, since they’ve never had a personal encounter with her.

She made this statement to the press: “How could I possibly know that? I’ve never had personal interactions with Roberta Kaplan, nor have we ever conversed. Currently, I find myself confined within a lavish jail, so it seems the Me Too movement may not be all it’s cracked up to be.

Additionally, it was disclosed by TMZ Executive Producer Harvey Levin on their platform that he spoke with Williams for 90 minutes on Friday, and surprisingly, he mentioned that she gave no indication of having a disability, despite her aphasia and frontotemporal dementia diagnoses.

The 74-year-old TV figure shared: “The Wendy Williams I talked to today is exactly the same person I knew a decade ago. She hasn’t changed a bit.

‘She was lucid, she was articulate, she was with it, and she was opinionated.’

A day following Kaplan’s defense of keeping her under guardianship, this action was taken, as the ex-talk show host had requested her liberty.

Following my call on The Breakfast Club radio show where I asserted that I am not cognitively impaired, my legal representative, specifically my guardianship attorney, has shared a different perspective with TMZ.

She clarified that Williams is experiencing frontal lobe dementia, stressing that this is a brain disorder without a known cure.

The lawyer representing Williams in her lawsuit against A&E over the documentary “Where Is Wendy Williams?” clarified that due to a court ruling, Williams lacks the capacity to handle her own legal and financial affairs.

The lawyer mentioned that she’ll need lifelong care because the illness is progressive and deteriorates over time.

Additionally, Kaplan mentioned that Williams experiences both difficult and productive days. For instance, she had a particularly clear-minded day when she appeared on The Breakfast Club last Thursday.

Each day, I eagerly tune in to the morning radio show, where Williams shares her heart with Charlamagne tha God. Yesterday, she revealed how she feels trapped, ensnared by the tumultuous circumstances of her controversial guardianship. She candidly described her life as a chaotic mess.

In addition, she criticized her legal caretaker, Sabrina Morrissey, during the conversation, asserting that she has been cut off from her loved ones.

 

Fans of Williams were furious when Wendy asserted that Morrissey had swapped her old phone for a new one, which could only place calls but not receive them, thus rendering it unattainable for friends and relatives to contact her personally.

Due to the guardianship court order, Morrissey is prohibited from commenting on the story. 

Additionally, Williams claimed that her current interactions primarily occur when her caretakers administer her medication.

At the performance, the ex-shock jock emotionally expressed that she was enduring a challenging circumstance characterized as ’emotional mistreatment’.

She informed the radio show hosts that although she is not cognitively impaired, she feels as if she’s living in a confined space, or put another way, she described her situation as being trapped, and she emphasized that she certainly feels cut off from others.

She mentioned, “I’m not comfortable conversing with those locals. I usually prefer to keep my door shut.

The TV personality shared insights into the bare essence of her everyday existence following her placement under conservatorship.

‘I watch TV. I listen to the radio. I watch the window. I sit here, and my life goes by.’ 

She mentioned that her pet cats are not with her anymore, stating that they have ‘left’ or ‘been removed’, despite her desire for them to stay by her side.

The popular TV personality expressed her long-term aspiration of relocating to sunny Florida, where she plans to reside with her loved ones.

Currently, the star is primarily planning to journey to Miami next month for the purpose of celebrating her cherished father’s birthday.

Prior to his interview, Charlamagne wrote on Instagram that conservatorships and guardianships are meant to “preserve one’s dignity” rather than exert control over them.

The talk show host stated that conservatorships and guardianships ought to be designed to bolster, safeguard, and aid individuals – rather than restrict them within unseen prisons.
