Weezer performs at Coachella following incident with police
Over the weekend, I found myself pleasantly surprised by the announcement of Weezer joining this year’s Coachella lineup. Few might have anticipated that their performance would be one of the most eagerly awaited at the festival.
However, prior to recent events, Scott Shriner’s wife, Jillian, had an unusual incident in Los Angeles where she was shot by law enforcement officials. This took place following an encounter in which officers found her armed with a handgun in the backyard of a house in Eagle Rock.
Stepping onto the stage under the Mojave tent during an afternoon concert, I couldn’t help but feel a rush of adrenaline as the thunderous applause echoed around me, coming from the massive sea of fans stretching far and wide. That was my moment, and it was Scott Shriner who made it so memorable.
On Tuesday, during a separate manhunt for individuals suspected of fleeing a hit-and-run accident on the 134 Freeway, an incident involving police and author Jillian Lauren Shriner took place near her residence. Officers claim that they found Shriner with a gun, which she allegedly used to shoot at the police. In response, the officers returned fire, injuring Shriner, who was then taken to a hospital with wounds not considered life-threatening. She was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Shriner posted a $1 million bond and was released from custody late Wednesday.
On a Thursday, Scott Shriner, who was speaking to journalists from the New York Post, stated that his spouse was in good health while they were both taking their four pets for a walk around their residence.
“See you at Coachella!” the paper said he added.
During Weezer’s concert, frontman Rivers Cuomo mentioned it was a refreshing change from their L.A. work on a Weezer film. The show featured classic hits like “Hash Pipe,” “Perfect Situation,” “Undone – The Sweater Song,” and “Surf Wax America.” At one point, Cuomo embraced Scott Shriner as Shriner sang a high-pitched vocal line during the performance. However, there was no mention on stage about the recent incident involving Shriner’s wife.
During their performance, the group additionally played “Enter Sandman” by Metallica and concluded with a powerful sequence from their famous 1994 debut album – first performing “Say It Ain’t So”, followed by “Buddy Holly”.
