Weezer bassist Scott Shriner’s wife Jillian Lauren files for divorce months after LAPD shooting

After 20 years together, Weezer bassist Scott Shriner and his wife, Jillian Lauren, are divorcing. This news comes several months after Lauren was reportedly involved in a shooting with Los Angeles police.

Okay, so I just saw the news – apparently, the author of “Everything You Ever Wanted,” she’s filing for divorce. It sounds like it’s pretty amicable, citing “irreconcilable differences” in the paperwork. They’ve been married since November 2005 and have two teenage sons together, which is always sad to hear. No word yet on when they actually separated, though.

Lauren is asking the court for shared custody of her two children and financial support from her husband. She also wants the court to stop any future support payments to her husband, and for him to cover her legal costs. Finally, she’s requesting to legally change her name by removing her husband’s last name.

Earlier this year, 51-year-old Jillian Lauren was arrested after police say she pointed a gun and shot towards officers who were chasing suspects through neighboring yards.

Lauren submitted her legal request several months after being arrested by Los Angeles police in April on suspicion of attempted murder. Police claim she shot at them with a gun while they were searching her Eagle Rock property for a suspect in a different hit-and-run case.

Police shot Lauren and she was hospitalized with a wound that was not life-threatening.

The California Highway Patrol asked the Los Angeles Police Department for help finding three people who had left after a hit-and-run on the 134 Freeway. Officers were sent to a house on Waldo Place, where one of the suspects had been spotted running. When police arrived, they found Lauren in the backyard of a neighboring property with a gun. According to police, she pointed the gun at them, and shots were fired. This happened just days before Weezer was scheduled to perform at Coachella.

Lauren was accused of assault and improperly firing a gun. She entered a plea of not guilty to these serious charges in May. Fortunately, in September, she was spared jail time after a judge approved a diversion program, recognizing her mental health struggles. As part of this program, she can’t possess firearms, use drugs or alcohol, and is required to attend therapy. If she follows these conditions for two years, all charges will be dropped.

Footage from police body cameras and security cameras shows the chaotic scene before Jillian Lauren was shot earlier this month. The video reveals a lot of confusion among officers at the time.

I was really shocked to hear about everything with Lauren. I knew she’d been going through a tough time, as she’d shared with us that she was recovering from cancer treatment and a hysterectomy she had in March. She was so positive, even mentioning she had ‘a little bit of the C word’ and giving a shout-out to the amazing doctors who took care of her and made her complicated surgery go smoothly. It just makes the whole situation even more heartbreaking.

Rivers Cuomo and his band Weezer will be performing at Australia’s Good Things Festival from Friday to Sunday.
