Wednesday Season 2: Plot, cast, release date, and more
On Wednesday in August, you can expect another round of spine-chilling horror, witty humor, and eccentric Addams Family adventures. So, what will Season 2 bring us?
Once again, our enigmatic and peculiar Wednesday series will be gracing our screens shortly. The first season garnered an astounding 341.2 million hours of viewing within its initial week of release, making it one of the most-watched English-language series at the time. In January 2023, it even surpassed many to take the second spot among English-language Netflix series, trailing only behind Stranger Things 4. Now, two years on, the show is set to return with a new season.
Wednesday Season 2 cast
In her conversation with MTV News last year, Jenna Ortega expressed her excitement about reprising her beloved role as Wednesday Addams. She mentioned that being part of this iconic character was already an amazing experience, and being able to step back into the role again is a blast for her. Most of the other cast members are also returning to their respective roles in the production.
- Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams
- Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams
- Isaac Ordonez as Wednesday’s little brother, Pugsley
- Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay
- Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair
- Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Deputy Ritchie Santiago
- Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin
- Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester
- Jamie McShane as Sheriff Galpin
- Moosa Mostafa as Eugene Otinger
The role of Yoko Tanaka, previously played by Naomi J. Ogawa, will not be reprised for Season 2. Unfortunately, scheduling issues and limited opportunities for character growth have led to her departure, as she herself announced on her social media platforms.
As stated by the actress, it was an exceptionally tough choice to make, but one that was required given the situation at hand. Unfortunately, Percy Hynes White, who portrayed Xavier Thorpe, is no longer part of the cast. In 2023, he faced accusations of sexual assault, sparking a significant online uproar. He vehemently denied these allegations, but ultimately found himself removed from the series.
Lady Gaga is coming to the show
As a devoted fan, I couldn’t hide my excitement when I heard about the unexpected twist for Wednesday Season 2: the inclusion of Lady Gaga! According to Variety, the show’s creators initially aimed for her to play a more substantial role, but scheduling clashes made that dream difficult to realize. Nevertheless, she will grace our screens in some form, although specifics about her part are being kept top-secret!
In a chat with Entertainment Weekly in March, Lady Gaga hinted at her participation while keeping details under wraps: “I don’t want to reveal anything about being part of the show. I prefer to keep it super secret – but I adore Jenna, and I truly enjoyed myself!” This suggests a strong connection between Gaga and Jenna Ortega on set, though specifics about her character and plotline remain shrouded in mystery. For now, fans can only anticipate how Gaga will fit into the spooky realm of Wednesday.
What can we expect in the next season?
The second season trailer for “The Wednesday” starts with a blast, showing Jenna Ortega’s character, Wednesday, at an airport nonchalantly unloading her large collection of personal weapons. In a comical scene, Thing attempts to sneak in sunscreen – evidently misunderstanding the concept of an undead appearance. This quirky and fitting detail serves as a witty reference to the show’s unique humor.
Shortly following this, the Addams clan makes their way to Jericho, where they deliver Pugsley – Wednesday’s little brother – who is starting at Nevermore Academy. The scenario echoes Wednesday’s entrance in Season 1, suggesting that the upcoming storyline may delve deeper into the relationships within the Addams family.
In Season 2, expect the show to continue its unique mix of fantasy, terror, enigma, and dark humor. We’ll delve further into the quirky bond between Wednesday and Enid, while also spending more quality time with the eccentric, yet captivating Addams family. The trailer hints at intense scenes filled with monstrous creatures, magic, and secrets long hidden beneath the surface. As Wednesday ominously warns, “Wherever there’s chaos and calamity, you will always find an Addams.
A darker twist in the story
2023 saw Jenna Ortega expressing her wish for a more complex Wednesday character than portrayed in the initial season, stating “I believe I want it to follow an anti-hero path instead of the usual hero,” during her interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in March 2023. Based on the trailer’s content, it appears Jenna’s aspirations could be materializing.
As reported in an interview with Collider this year, Jenna Ortega has shared that season 2 of Wednesday will include an entire episode dedicated to slasher films. This suggests a shift towards more action and horror elements compared to the romantic aspects previously seen. Jenna expressed her intention to increase the horror elements and free Wednesday from romantic entanglements, allowing her character to focus on being self-reliant and solving crimes on her own.
When will Wednesday Season 2 come out?
On August 6 and again on September 3, you’ll find Wednesday gracing your screens in two segments. Earlier plans had us filming in Romania; however, due to certain logistics issues, the setting was changed to Ireland instead. Exclusively on Netflix, this series will be available for your viewing pleasure.
To date, there hasn’t been any official confirmation regarding a potential third season. Yet, co-showrunners Miles Millar and Al Gough have hinted at the possibility of extending the series further, with plans to delve deeper into various character storylines, particularly those involving the Adams family. In an interview with Variety, Miles Millar mentioned that they aim to continue crafting a show that keeps fans satisfied.
As a dedicated gamer, I never envisioned this twist, but the thrill of uncertainty is what makes the game exciting! In crafting our narrative, we always sketch out several storylines for multiple seasons ahead. These plots can adapt and shift over time. What’s intriguing is discovering which characters truly shine and become enjoyable to develop further. Therefore, it’s crucial to maintain a flexible and natural approach, while keeping the plot open enough to make changes and grow organically. However, we do have a clear roadmap for where we aim to take the game in future seasons.
