Chris Chibnall, the writer and producer known for shows like Broadchurch and Doctor Who, is bringing his novel Death at the White Hart to ITV as a new TV series. The story, set in a quiet Dorset village, revolves around the murder of a pub owner and the secrets that come to light. Chibnall is also working on Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials for Netflix, but this project allows him to adapt his own work, promising a tangled plot of lies and competing interests.
I was reading an interview with Chris Chibnall in Radio Times, and he was talking about how tricky it is to turn his own scripts into something new. He said the project is still very much in the beginning stages, so it’s going to be a while before we see anything!
“Yeah, it’s interesting,” he said.

It’s about finding the right approach. When adapting a book, you need a voice that’s a little different from the original. We’re working with a fantastic team on this, but it’s still very early in the process.
It’s good, really. Knowing the world it’s set in helps, and it’s just a different kind of work. Actually, adapting Seven Dials beforehand was really helpful. We’ll just have to see how things go.

Released last year, Death at the White Hart centers around Detective Nicola Bridge. She moves from the city to the small village of Fleetcombe to investigate the murder of a local pub owner.
Polly Hill, ITV’s Director of Drama, expressed her enthusiasm for collaborating once more with Chris and Red Planet Pictures, and for ITV being the network to showcase his first novel.
This collaboration is fantastic, and with Chris leading the adaptation, I’m confident it will be a truly captivating drama. We’re especially thrilled Chris is returning to Dorset to film this distinctly British mystery, alongside a brilliant new team of investigators.

Though we’ll have to wait a bit for the new Death at the White Hart mystery, the Netflix series Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, created by Chibnall, is coming out very soon.
This three-episode series is based on Agatha Christie’s 1929 novel, The Seven Dials Mystery. Mia McKenna-Bruce plays Lady ‘Bundle’ Brent, who is investigating a mysterious death that happened on her property.
Death at the White Hart will air on ITV at a later date.
Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials premieres on Netflix on 15 January.
The latest issue of Living Legends magazine is now available, and it’s dedicated to the incredible Dolly Parton! You can find “Dolly at 80” in shops or online for only £8.99.
