We Went Home and Cried

On Monday morning, I left Sunrise viewers spellbound as I shared a heartbreaking revelation – my home, shared with my beloved partner Louis Bélanger-Martin, was among those tragically consumed by the recent Los Angeles wildfires.

51-year-old American supermodel wept openly as she shared that she was in Sydney when she found out her grand Palisades home had been destroyed by fire.

She shared with Channel Seven hosts, Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington, that she chose to keep her tragic loss private as she didn’t wish to draw too much focus or attention onto herself.

In response to being questioned about the fires that devastated Los Angeles, a visibly emotional Tyra admitted, “Unfortunately, I no longer have my home.” She went on to share that she had been holding back this difficult news.

I prefer not to draw much focus onto myself, as I believe many others require the attention more than I do, so I’ve chosen not to discuss it.

‘But I can’t sit here and not tell the truth.’

Currently, Tyra resides in Sydney where she’s busy getting ready to launch her very own ice cream shop called Smize & Dream, which will officially open at Darling Harbour in March.

She’s been dividing her days between Australia and her residence in New York, indicating that she was remarkably fortunate to relocate the majority of her possessions away from Los Angeles.

I couldn’t help but share the heartbreaking news that Tyra shared herself – her beloved home was destroyed in the Palisades fire, one of many blazes that have been tearing through our city since early January.

The blaze tore through more than 23,700 acres and destroyed 5,000 structures.

Tyra stated that she was enjoying herself at a friend’s place, having a good time, when the fires broke out.

I repeatedly checked my phone, more specifically for updates from my loved ones – my friends and family – ensuring they were safely leaving our home during the evacuation…

‘And then I asked my partner, I said, “I’m seeing something on my phone here,” and he… [nods].

Instead, let me rephrase the given sentence for you: “I gathered myself and remained silent with my friends, fully immersed in the moment. Later, we returned home, shared tears, and took a quiet moment together.

The tragic impact of the Los Angeles wildfires is immense, claiming at least 25 lives and urging more than 88,000 residents to heed fresh evacuation warnings.

They have been warned to brace for more dangerous fire weather.

Governor Gavin Newsom has already declared it one of the worst natural disasters in US history.

Officials advise anyone near the fires to stay ready to evacuate instantly, as there are worries that stronger winds might start fresh fires and intensify the ones currently burning.

On Tuesday, the National Weather Service cautioned that we’re not completely safe yet, even though the winds didn’t reach their forecasted strength.

As a devoted observer, I must share that the winds didn’t meet expectations today, but there’s a possibility of an improvement coming up later tonight or tomorrow, as suggested by the National Weather Service in their recent announcement.

In contrast to previous predictions, this current wave of Santa Ana winds might not reach the same intensity as last week. However, these winds may scatter embers over vast distances, potentially igniting fresh fires in an area that has tragically claimed at least 25 lives so far.

As authorities reach the fire-damaged areas that are still smoldering, they anticipate that the number of fatalities will keep increasing.

On Tuesday, the coroner announced that two additional deceased individuals were found – one near the area affected by the Palisades fire, which swept through the star-studded neighborhoods of Malibu and Pacific Palisades, and another near the Eaton fire in Pasadena and Altadena.

However, it was found that the remains discovered in the Eaton fire were not human, leading to an increase of just one in the total number of fatalities.
