We need more honest fitness influencers
Regardless of whether you admire them or find them irritating, fitness influencers carry significant weight within the industry and among its participants. This is primarily because they are referred to as ‘influencers’, a title that reflects their impact. Their insights, advice, motivation, and innovation make a substantial difference – this is one of the main reasons why so many people follow them. The industry values and compensates them for these contributions, whether through sponsored content or not.
The problem lies here: More and more individuals, particularly on TikTok and Instagram, are seeking authentic health and fitness influencers. They aren’t interested in easy-looking or fake solutions, or ones that seem universally achievable. Instead, they want their challenges and anxieties not only acknowledged but emphasized. But why isn’t this trend more prevalent? It’s because many influencers are primarily motivated by financial gain. This often leads them to endorse products they don’t genuinely support, which promise results that don’t align with the genuine, gritty lifestyle they strive for.
It’s important to clarify that not all fitness influencers prioritize brand deals over their audience. In reality, a growing number of these influencers are focusing on building loyalty with their audience rather than pursuing brand deals excessively. There are indeed numerous “fitfluencers” who highly value their business and followers. However, those who feel compelled to accept certain brand deals may find it challenging to maintain the authentic “real human being” image due to financial constraints. It’s essential for followers to comprehend that sometimes, accepting brand deals is part of the job as an influencer, but many followers may not fully grasp this concept.
I firmly believe that prioritizing the well-being of my followers over personal gain is a noble approach, but it’s not always financially sustainable for everyone. On the web, being “real” about struggling with fitness or dietary choices might resonate with some, but it’s less profitable than projecting an image of influence. This digital realm often values impact over authenticity.
To tackle this issue effectively, back your preferred authentic fitness influencers, especially those who aren’t solely dependent on big brand sponsorships. If monetary support isn’t an option for you, remember that many influencers dislike asking for money from those who might not be able to give. Instead, help boost their visibility by liking, commenting, following, and sharing their content. It may seem like a small action, but it could significantly impact the number of people who see their posts. After all, every little bit helps in giving that post a better chance of reaching more viewers on their For You Pages.
Encourage the algorithm to appreciate truthfulness. To see more genuine perspectives about fitness online, show appreciation for such posts. Remember, you have some influence. Changing an entire industry requires collective effort from all of us.
