We built LEGO’s new WALL-E and EVE models – here’s 3 reasons why you need to buy this brilliant set

LEGO previously released a WALL-E set that’s now retired – it was even designed by a Pixar animator and director! Now, LEGO has updated WALL-E with a brand new set that includes EVE. Digital Spy recently built the set to explore what makes it so great.

LEGO’s WALL-E and EVE features

The LEGO WALL-E and EVE building set has 811 pieces and includes instructions for building four different models: WALL-E, EVE, M-O, and WALL-E’s pet cockroach, Hal. The pieces are divided into seven bags and the building process involves 305 steps.

Although some might wish this set included more minifigures, it’s difficult to say which ones LEGO could have added, especially considering it already lets you build supporting characters like M-O and Hal. WALL-E and EVE both come with accessories: a garbage block for WALL-E and the essential plant for EVE.

3 reasons to buy LEGO’s brilliant WALL-E and EVE set

1. It’s superbly designed and packed with details

Although this WALL-E figure is a bit smaller than the one released in 2015, the new set is better overall thanks to its excellent design and extra details that weren’t included before.

A key feature of this set is the use of actual printed bricks for details like EVE’s eyes and WALL-E’s body, instead of stickers. At this price, most fans would have expected stickers, which don’t look as high-quality. Using printed bricks is a welcome addition and really improves the set’s design.

The creators clearly spent a lot of time developing each character, even the smallest ones like Hal, to make sure they act and look exactly as you’d imagine. For example, M-O always seems grumpy, no matter how you position him, and WALL-E is consistently lovable.

Okay, so this LEGO set doesn’t have *tons* of hidden stuff like the really big ones, but it’s still cool. They thought to include little hidden spaces inside both WALL-E and EVE. I can actually store a tiny garbage cube in WALL-E and the little plant in EVE – it’s a neat detail that really completes the build!

2. It’s posable for a variety of display options

The models are remarkably versatile and well-designed, offering lots of ways to display them thanks to their adjustable parts.

M-O isn’t quite as flexible, but you can pose his arms and head to show him either scrubbing intensely or giving WALL-E a stern look. Both WALL-E and EVE offer more posing options, with movable heads and arms, and EVE’s arms can even tuck neatly into her body.

WALL-E and M-O can both move around – WALL-E on wheels and M-O with a spinning brush. Hal doesn’t move on his own, and while he can be attached to WALL-E, he doesn’t need to be.

You can present these however you like, but we keep coming back to the image of WALL-E and EVE holding hands – it’s simply adorable.

3. It’s an intricate – but not too complex – build

Despite being inspired by a Pixar film, this LEGO set is designed for builders aged 18 and up. While not overly complicated, the build can be tricky due to the small size of some pieces and the overall scale of the models – WALL-E and EVE each stand about 13cm tall (excluding EVE’s base).

The whole process took about two and a half hours – roughly the length of time it would take to watch *WALL-E* and then some. Building the set was a big undertaking, involving 178 steps and taking almost as long as the entire movie itself to finish. *WALL-E* served as perfect background noise during the build!

Building the WALL-E model is the most challenging part of the project because his tracks are assembled from 28 individual pieces. It’s important to keep track of them all, but the final result is a satisfying LEGO experience that showcases the model’s clever design.

Plus, you then get to wheel WALL-E around, which never loses its joy.
