Wayne Rooney recently spent some relaxing time in Scotland with his wife, Coleen. This came after he shared that Coleen’s support was crucial in helping him overcome his struggles with alcoholism, saying he wouldn’t have made it without her.
The 39-year-old ex-footballer opened up about his battle with alcohol in a candid interview, revealing that his wife, Coleen, has helped him cope with his personal struggles.
Wayne shared photos on Instagram from his visit to Gleneagles in Scotland, a luxurious hotel with a spa and golf course.
I was so happy to see those pictures! It showed him and Coleen having a lovely, relaxed walk, and then they met up with some of his old Manchester United buddies – Michael Carrick and Darren Gibson – along with their wives, Lisa and Danielle, for dinner. It just seemed like a really nice, normal evening for them all.
‘Brilliant few days in Scotland with great company,’ Wayne captioned his post.
It was so lovely to see Danielle, Darren’s wife, share a photo of us wives – myself and the other former players’ partners – all getting ready for a fun clay pigeon shooting day! We were so excited and it was great to spend time together.

She described herself as an ordinary girl from a working-class background trying clay pigeon shooting at the luxurious Gleneagles hotel – a completely new and challenging experience for her.

Wayne Rooney recently shared details about his difficult battle with alcohol in an interview with his former Manchester United colleague, Rio Ferdinand.
When he was younger, Wayne simply wanted to have fun and spend time with his friends. But he admits he eventually went overboard, which caused him significant difficulties.
He explained that he felt unable to confide in others, not wanting to trouble them with his problems. He didn’t want to be a burden.
Wayne remembered a time when he drank alcohol continuously for two days before attending football practice.
To hide his drinking from his colleagues and boss, Wayne would try to cover up the smell with eye drops, gum, and aftershave after a two-day drinking spree.
He admitted that while he performed well during training and scored goals on weekends, he would then fall back into a pattern of drinking heavily for two days afterwards.

Wayne made a heartfelt statement, publicly thanking his wife and mother of his four children, Coleen. He shared that he truly believes she saved his life, saying he wouldn’t be alive today without her.
He excitedly described Coleen as very popular. He explained that they both came from the same neighborhood in Croxteth, grew up together, started dating, got married, and had children, and that the situation was difficult because of their shared background.
When I was seventeen, my mom really understood me. She recognized I was a bit different – I was passionate about football, almost obsessed with it, but I also enjoyed going out and having fun with friends.
She recognized the issue right away and has been a huge help in managing it. It wasn’t that she took control, but she really supported me in getting it under control.
Sometimes it feels confusing, like you’re wondering why someone is constantly telling you what *not* to do.
‘How she’s managed me because I needed managing.’
He went on to express his admiration for his wife, explaining that despite his past errors – which are well known – she consistently guides him towards being a better person, and she’s been doing so for over twenty years.
Coleen and Wayne first met as kids in Liverpool at age 12, and they began dating four years later when they were both 16.
The couple got married in 2008 and are parents to four children: Kai, who is 15, Klay, 11, Kit, 8, and Cass, 6.
Coleen has faced public accusations of infidelity involving her husband, including a widely reported incident from his teenage years where he was caught with three prostitutes. This event received significant national media attention.
In 2004, after 18-year-old Wayne moved to Manchester United, reports surfaced alleging he paid £140 for sexual services from 21-year-old Charlotte Glover.
Reports also surfaced alleging that he had sexual encounters with Gina McCarrick, age 37 at the time, and Patricia Tierney, a 48-year-old grandmother, at a Liverpool brothel.
Devastated Coleen stood by her man but didn’t comment publicly on the claims.
I recently watched a fascinating documentary on Amazon Prime about my husband’s life and football career, and I opened up for the first time about the difficult topic of his infidelity. It was a really honest conversation, and I wanted to share that part of our story as part of the larger picture.
She thanked her parents, Colette and Tony, for always being there for her. She also shared that a major reason she stayed in her marriage, despite Wayne’s infidelity and struggles with alcohol, was for the sake of their children.
She advised focusing on your own desires when making important choices, rather than listening to others. She explained that people will always offer conflicting opinions, like questioning why someone is rekindling a past relationship.
Of course, I value the opinions of the people I care about, especially my parents, who always help me see the bright side of things.
We always find a way to handle whatever comes our way, and that’s how I approach challenges – by calmly figuring out solutions and making things work. We’ve consistently done that. We’re not overly affectionate, but we enjoy each other’s company and collaborate effectively.
