As a fervent admirer of the illustrious Osmond family, I find myself deeply moved by their captivating journey from humble beginnings to international stardom. Growing up, I was always enchanted by their harmonious tunes and the magnetic charm they exuded on television screens across the globe.

The tale of these musical prodigies is one that resonates with me profoundly. Their unwavering dedication to their craft, coupled with the steadfast guidance of their parents George and Olive, serves as a testament to the indomitable spirit of family and perseverance.

From the enchanting melodies of Disneyland, to the bright lights of Las Vegas, the Osmonds have left an indelible mark on the annals of pop culture. Their ability to adapt and evolve in an ever-changing entertainment landscape is nothing short of inspiring.

And let’s not forget their sense of humor! I mean, who can forget George Osmond taking his family to Disneyland as a consolation prize? Little did they know that this seemingly ordinary outing would set the wheels in motion for a life filled with magic and music.

In closing, I’d like to share a little joke that always comes to mind when I think about the Osmonds: How do you keep an Osmond brother from singing? Lock him in a room with no windows, doors, or walls… and give him a microphone! After all, they truly are the “One Bad Apple” that kept on singing and soaring to new heights.

The second oldest member of the musical group, the Osmond Brothers, named Wayne Osmond, has sadly passed away at the age of 73.

On Wednesday, the baritone-voiced singer and guitarist who was part of the nine Osmond siblings, older brother to Donny and Marie Osmond, passed away peacefully with his wife and five children by his side. This information was shared in a statement posted on Facebook by his daughter, Amy Osmond Cook, on Thursday. Additionally, the family has created a ‘Celebration of Life’ page on Facebook to honor the deceased musician.

Through his enduring impact on faith, music, affection, and humor, he significantly touched numerous lives across the globe. He’d want everyone to understand that Jesus Christ’s teachings are genuine, families last eternally, and banana splits are the finest dessert. We deeply cherish him and will sorely miss his presence,” reads her statement.

No cause of death was immediately available.

45 years ago, at Disneyland, George Osmond, the family patriarch who kick-started the singing and performing careers of the Osmond clan, passed away.

Born Melvin Wayne Osmond in Ogden on August 28, 1951, Wayne Osmond later married Kathlyn White in 1974. Notably, this talented multi-instrumentalist underwent surgery for a brain tumor in 1997 and subsequently experienced a stroke in 2012 that took away his ability to play the guitar. He has also battled cancer, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. However, he made a remarkable comeback by performing with his siblings in 2019 at his sister Marie’s 60th birthday celebration.

As a passionate cinephile, I reached out to representatives for Donny and Marie Osmond on Thursday, but they haven’t responded with a comment yet, according to The Times.

Brother Merrill Osmond announced on Facebook that Wayne Osmond is currently battling a severe stroke at a Salt Lake City hospital. Despite facing numerous challenges, he has shown immense resilience and determination. Moreover, he acknowledged his brother’s remarkable talent for composing music and touching the hearts of millions with his divine melodies.

Merrill Osmond posted on Facebook yesterday, stating that his brother was already a saint before being born and will depart as an even more profound saint. I’ve never encountered a man with greater humility. A man who possessed no deceit whatsoever. An individual who forgave quickly and demonstrated boundless love to everyone he encountered.

Music

In August 2021, Donny Osmond kicked off a solo performance series at Harrah’s Las Vegas. Now, you can catch him singing ‘Puppy Love’ and more all the way up to 2024.

It’s going to be a sorrowful farewell for some people here, but it will be a grand and unimaginably joyous occasion for those eagerly awaiting him in the next realm,” he remarked.

On Thursday, Wayne’s younger sibling, Jay Osmond, expressed his deep sadness over the passing, stating that “an extraordinary figure has departed from our world.

People often say that deep love brings intense sorrow when separation occurs in our earthly lives. Among all my siblings, it’s Wayne with whom I have always felt the closest bond. For many years, he was not just a roommate, but also my trusted confidant,” he shared on Facebook.

Jay Osmond mentioned that upon his recent visit with his brother, Wayne Osmond appeared saddened because he is now unable to pilot an airplane. He shared that flying used to bring him tranquility.

It brings me great pleasure to learn that my sibling, ‘Wings’, has been awarded his wings. I can’t help but envision the incredible heights he’s reaching now. I’m certain the reunion he had with Father and Mother must have been an extraordinary event.

In the late 1950s, George Osmond, a soldier and family leader, kick-started the entertainment careers of his children. He passed away in 2007. Prior to him, his wife, Olive Osmond, had already passed away in 2004.

Growing up, my parents, George and Olive, shared their love for music with us – me as a budding singer, Olive on her saxophone. Together, we children and they formed the Osmond Brothers band, including Alan, Wayne, and Jay. Unfortunately, Virl and Tom, our eldest brothers, suffer from degenerative hearing loss that affects their speech. Despite this, my father guided us in mastering four-part harmonies at a young age, and we showcased these skills for our Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints congregation in Ogden, Utah. We also performed at local fairs and amusement parks during the late 1950s.

In 1962, I led my family on a journey to Los Angeles, with dreams of joining “The Lawrence Welk Show.” Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to secure the spot. However, as a sweet consolation, George Osmond treated us to Disneyland. The boys, all dressed in matching outfits, caught the attention of a barbershop quartet performing on Main Street. They invited us to perform with their group, and our impromptu show ended up lasting over an hour! As D23 reports, this unexpected performance landed us an invitation to the Disneyland entertainment office where we signed our first professional contract.

Jimmy Osmond, the youngest member of the family and also an executive producer for tonight’s ABC film, offers a glimpse into the ups and downs experienced by the family.

As they performed at Disneyland, the father of singer Andy Williams noticed them and proposed the group to his son. This recommendation eventually resulted in the Osmond Brothers landing a five-year television stint on “The Andy Williams Show.

1963 saw the incorporation of Donny Osmond, their youngest sibling, into the musical group. This addition led to a name change from the original to The Osmonds. Prior to securing a record deal, they graced “The Jerry Lewis Show.” Throughout the 1960s and ’70s, this talented family produced an impressive 34 gold and platinum records, as reported by the Associated Press. Among their many hits were “One Bad Apple (Don’t Spoil the Whole Bunch)” which topped the charts in 1971, as well as “Down by the Lazy River,” “Yo-Yo,” “Love Me for a Reason,” and “Crazy Horses.” These tracks also made it onto the Billboard Hot 100.

In my journey, both Donny and my younger sister Marie achieved great success individually and as a musical duo in various music and TV projects. I, too, was a regular feature on our “Donny & Marie” variety show that aired from 1975 to 1979. On some occasions, I even took on the role of producer for this beloved program.
