Wayans brothers reunite for new Scary Movie reboot

As a seasoned gamer who has seen countless movie reboots and remakes, I must say, the return of the Wayans brothers to the Scary Movie franchise feels like a breath of fresh air. The original Scary Movies were a staple in my teenage years, providing endless laughter and parodying the horror movies that kept me up at night.

The Wayans brothers are returning to Scary Movie after 18 years away from the franchise.

11 years following the last installment, there’s news from CinemaCon in April about a new version (or revival) of the “Scary Movie” series being developed.

Currently, it’s been verified that Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans have joined the project, all contributing as writers and producers. They will be working together with Rick Alvarez in this endeavor.

Jonathan Glickman, head of Miramax, shared with Deadline: “We’re excited to bring the Wayans brothers back together for Scary Movie, the duo who initially crafted the cherished series we adore.

It’s an ideal moment to resurrect the series for the big screen, and we’re fortunate that Keenen, Marlon, and Shawn’s distinctive comedic perspective will share it with viewers worldwide.

Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Wayans expressed their immense joy: “There’s nothing we’re more thrilled about than being involved in the fresh Scary Movie, and collaborating with each other once more. This is a series that we started over 20 years ago!

“We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”

Previously, it had been made known that Miramax intended to launch the movie in 2025. Notably, the production of this film is under the supervision of Neal H Moritz, who is recognized for his work on Fast & Furious.

The series known as “Scary Movie” began in the year 2000, imitating famous horror films that were popular back then, including “Scream” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” along with timeless classics like “The Exorcist.

In previous installments, excluding 2013, I found myself cheering for Anna Faris and Regina Hall as they portrayed Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks. It remains to be seen if these talented actresses will reprise their roles in the upcoming edition.
