Watch Tim Walz React to Endorsement From ‘Fellow Cat Owner’ Taylor Swift
As a film enthusiast with a knack for politics and a soft spot for cats (and pop culture, of course), I find myself utterly captivated by this electrifying political drama unfolding before our eyes. The latest twist, Taylor Swift‘s heartfelt endorsement of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, is nothing short of electrifying!
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who is the Democratic vice presidential candidate, responded immediately after Taylor Swift announced her endorsement of him and Kamala Harris on Tuesday night, during a live TV interview with Rachel Maddow on MSNBC. As fate would have it, this announcement coincided with a discussion between Walz and Maddow about the presidential debate between Harris and Donald Trump. Upon hearing the news, Maddow momentarily paused to read out Swift’s endorsement.
During Maddow’s reading, Walz visibly reacted as Swift concluded with “childless cat lady.” This phrase particularly amused him, causing him to chuckle and mouth “oh wow.” Swift’s closing was a response to Vance’s 2021 comments labeling the country as being managed by a group of childless cat ladies, a remark made by Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance.
In simpler terms, Walz expressed his heartfelt appreciation for Taylor Swift, particularly as they are both cat owners. Following Maddow’s reading of the endorsement, he emphasized that Swift’s eloquent and clear stance is the kind of courage needed in America. He mentioned examples of Republicans who showed bravery at the DNC, women fighting for their right to privacy regarding personal matters like abortion, and now Taylor Swift making her stand crystal clear. Walz then encouraged Swift’s fans (Swifties) to visit KamalaHarris.com and offer support.
On Tuesday evening following the presidential debate, Swift announced her endorsement for Harris-Walz via her Instagram account, reaching her 283 million fans.
In her message to the crowd, she declared: “In the 2024 Presidential Election, I’ll be backing Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. I’m voting for @kamalaharris as she passionately advocates for issues I feel strongly about. I believe she is a skilled and resilient leader, and our nation could achieve so much more with her calm guidance instead of turmoil. I was moved and inspired by her choice of Vice President @timwalz, who has long been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s autonomy over her own body.

To go along with her endorsement, Swift shared an image – one that was captured by the photographers Inez & Vinoodh during her TIME magazine cover shoot in 2023, where she was chosen as Person of the Year.
