Watch the trailer for the new Game of Thrones mobile game, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad
As a seasoned critic with a heart full of nostalgia for the golden days of Westeros, I must say that the trailer for Game of Thrones: Kingsroad has stirred a whirlwind of emotions within me. Having traversed the treacherous political landscape of the Seven Kingdoms through the show and the Telltale games, I can’t help but feel a glimmer of hope for this new adventure.
Over the years, several video games based on “Game of Thrones” have been released, with many being mobile strategy games such as “Game of Thrones: Conquest”, where players strive for control over the Seven Kingdoms. Another upcoming adventure is titled “Game of Thrones: Kingsroad”, which seems to be an action-oriented game. Check out the trailer above!
In the trailer, there isn’t much hands-on gameplay shown, but it does highlight numerous battles involving Jon Snow and his comrades against wights, giants, and White Walkers north of The Wall. The narrative seems to center around Jon Snow and his Night’s Watch brethren, suggesting that the game might closely follow the plot of the series. Additionally, there appears to be a focus on uniting the major houses in their cause, hinting that the game could delve into events beyond the Northern regions, even though we don’t get direct visual evidence of this in the trailer.
The game “King’s Road,” based on the popular series “Game of Thrones,” is created by the South Korean studio Netmarble. While it might be promising, considering past mobile games related to “Game of Thrones,” it’s likely to be overlooked. Even when the original TV show was at its height, these games struggled to make an impact in popular culture as much as the series did. The most successful “Game of Thrones” games were the story-driven titles from Telltale, and they were available on multiple platforms other than mobile.
Warner Bros. Discovery has hinted at creating more “Game of Thrones” video games, but until they deliver a single-player action-adventure game with depth set in Westeros – which I believe is what most fans are craving – I have my doubts that their projects will gain widespread attention. However, it’s possible that “Game of Thrones: Kingsroad” might captivate the world when it launches for iOS and Android devices next year. We’ll see!
