The BBC just dropped a gripping trailer for its upcoming drama, Prisoner 951. Based on a true story, the four-part series is being called “heart-stopping” and will air later this month on BBC One and iPlayer.
The trailer shows Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian woman, getting ready to go home to the UK with her daughter. Just as she’s about to leave Iran, she’s unexpectedly detained and imprisoned.
Initially, Richard Ratcliffe was informed there was a problem with Nazanin’s passport. However, he quickly received information suggesting she had been abducted. Despite the Foreign Office recommending he do nothing, he chose to take action himself.

Even though it’s short, the video clearly shows how much Richard is struggling with the uncertainty of his wife’s safety.
Nazanin was imprisoned by the Iranian state for a total of six years.
Narges Rashidi, known for her role in Gangs of London, stars as Nazanin, and Joseph Fiennes, famous from The Handmaid’s Tale, plays Richard.
Philippa Lowthorpe, the director of Three Girls, helmed this four-part drama, based on a script by Stephen Butchard, who wrote This City Is Ours.
Filming took place in the UK and in Greece.
The book Prisoner 951 is inspired by Nazanin and Richard Ratcliffe’s memoir, A Yard of Sky, which is scheduled to be published next year.
Last month, the BBC announced a special 90-minute documentary called Prisoner 951: The Hostages’ Story, which tells the story of Nazanin’s imprisonment and her husband Richard’s fight for her release.
The couple collaborated with the filmmakers on the documentary, which also features interviews with other former hostages, including Anoosheh Ashoori and his daughter Elika, Kylie Moore-Gilbert, and Jason Rezaian.
Prisoner 951 is set to air on BBC One and stream on iPlayer later this month.
