WATCH the sinister trailer for Lee Daniels’ R-rated exorcism horror The Deliverance
As a huge horror fan with a deep appreciation for true stories, I can’t contain my excitement for “The Deliverance,” an upcoming Netflix original film that promises to send shivers down my spine. The haunting full-length trailer, featuring chilling words from Academy Award-nominated director Lee Daniels, has left me eagerly anticipating this August release.
As a horror enthusiast with a knack for unearthing hidden gems, I can’t help but be intrigued by the chilling words that introduce the trailer for “The Deliverance.” Having spent countless hours delving into the depths of supernatural tales, I’ve come to appreciate the skillful storytelling that leaves an indelible mark on my psyche.
“The movie ‘The Deliverance’ has generated a lot of buzz on the streaming platform, primarily due to the reunion of Daniels and Mo’Nique. These two actors became embroiled in a public feud following Daniels’ film ‘Precious,’ in which Mo’Nique earned an Oscar. However, they have since made up, with Daniels keen to include Mo’Nique in this production.”
Monique is cast as a social worker guiding Ebony through the exorcism procedure in the movie. Originally, Octavia Spencer was selected for this role but had to withdraw due to scheduling issues. The film boasts an impressive ensemble including Glenn Close, Andra Day, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Omar Epps, and Caleb McLaughlin.
The film has been rated R for violent content, language throughout, and some sexual references.
The Deliverance is inspired by the story of Latoya Ammons and her family, who were allegedly haunted while living in Gary, Indiana. Their home came to be referred to as the “Demon House,” which was the original title of the movie. Ammons claimed that she, her three children, and her mother all experienced paranormal activity.
According to reports, Ammons supposedly thought her children were under the influence of demons and sought the help of a local priest for exorcisms. The priest is depicted in the film trailer as performing these rituals, although they are referred to as “deliverance ceremonies,” which signify those conducting the cleansing procedure.
Here’s the official logline shared by Netflix:
Ebony Jackson, a hardworking single mom trying to overcome her inner struggles, seeks a new beginning by relocating her family. However, unexplained incidents within their new home trigger concerns from Child Protective Services, putting the family at risk of being torn apart. Facing an unexpected fight for survival, Ebony must now protect not only herself but also the spirits of her precious children.
I’m excited that “The Deliverance” is joining Netflix starting August 30! Go ahead and add this movie to your watchlist right away, so you won’t forget when it becomes available.
