Watch the first trailer for Death in Paradise star’s “hilarious” Irish comedy

A sneak peek of a new Irish comedy titled Fran the Man, featuring Ardal O’Hanlon from the show Death in Paradise, has been unveiled.

Based on a 2009 TV series, this mockumentary follows the manager (sorry, assistant manager) of a small football club as they compete in the FAI Cup for the first time.

Unfortunately, his dream turns into a nightmare as its discovered that players have taken a bribe to fix a match, and it becomes an internationally covered scandal. The shy protagonist has to turn detective to get to the bottom of it, all while navigating a blossoming romance with one of his player’s mothers.

In addition to O’Hanlon, the movie also stars Amy Huberman from “Handsome Devil”, Risteárd Cooper from “Delicious”, Eddie Marsan from “Back to Black”, and Darragh Humphreys reprising his role as Fran, who was previously seen on the TV show.

The movie titled Fran the Man is set to be released in Irish cinemas next month. It made its debut at the Dublin Film Festival and has been generating some positive reactions.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but get excited when I hear that a film has been labeled as “hilarious from start to finish” by both Joe.ie and RTÉ Guide. These reputable sources certainly know their stuff, so it’s safe to say this is going to be a real crowd-pleaser!

O’Hanlon acted as Detective Jack Mooney in “Death in Paradise” from 2017 to 2020. Last year, he briefly reappeared in two episodes of the Australian spin-off titled “Return to Paradise“.

The current season of Death in Paradise, with Don Gilet as the main detective, only has one episode left to air. It won’t be shown this Friday however, due to the Comic Relief telethon taking over the Friday schedule. Fans will have to wait an extra seven days to see it, but will still get some Paradise content this week.

Fran the Man will be released in cinemas in Ireland on April 11.
