Watch the first 8 minutes from new Lord of the Rings film War of the Rohirrim

As a seasoned film enthusiast who’s been following the cinematic landscape for decades, I must say I find myself intrigued by the upcoming releases of “The War of the Rohirrim” and “Kraven the Hunter.” While the former promises to delve into the darker, eerie aspects of Middle Earth that we haven’t seen before, the latter seems to be a bold venture into the world of Spider-Man villains sans our favorite web-slinger.

Coming up next weekend, “The War of the Rohirrim” – a fresh take on the “Lord of the Rings” saga, set 183 years before the familiar tale – will hit the big screens. This animated film follows Helm Hammerhand (portrayed by Brian Cox), the king of Rohan, who finds himself under siege by a Dunlending lord named Wulf (Luke Pasqualino). In a desperate bid for safety, he seeks refuge in the Hornburg, a fortress that will eventually become famous as Helm’s Deep.

In a surprising move, Warner Bros. has made available online an eight-minute preview of the movie that can be watched for free. From what we see so far, events at Hornburg are about to take a turn for the bizarre. There’s talk that Helm Hammerhand has transformed into a terrifying specter, though this is merely speculation for now. His daughter, Héra (played by Gaia Wise), appears to be investigating the situation. The atmosphere in the clip is dark and ominous, which fits perfectly with a film based on The Lord of the Rings. Take a look at the video above!

In the animated film titled The War of the Rohirrim , directed by Kenji Kamiyama, Mirando Otto lends her voice as the narrator. Notably, she played Éowyn, the Rohan shieldmaiden in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movie series. Despite finding the animation a bit uneven, I am intrigued by its atmosphere and plan to watch it when it hits theaters on December 13.

Watch the first eight minutes of Kraven the Hunter

On December 13th as well, we’ll see the release of “Kraven the Hunter“, a film centering around the infamous Spider-Man adversary who specializes in big game hunting, portrayed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson this time around. Notably, Sony has produced multiple movies centered on Spider-Man’s villains, yet none of these films actually feature Spider-Man himself. The outcomes have been quite mixed, with the “Venom” series performing well, but both the audience and critics panning “Morbius” and “Madame Web“.

As a dedicated cinephile, I can’t help but wonder where the upcoming film featuring Kraven the Hunter will fit along the cinematic spectrum. Dive into the opening eight minutes to uncover its unique place:

Starting the film with an extended Russian scene takes courage. I’m not familiar with Kraven from the comics, but it seems he serves some time in a Siberian jail. Apparently, it’s always harsh there.

In recent times, blockbusters such as “Wicked”, “Gladiator II” and “Moana 2” have been filling up cinemas, leading to a remarkable period of success for Hollywood on the big screen. Will the combination of “The War of the Rohirrim” and “Kraven the Hunter” sustain this winning streak? It seems unlikely, but they are certainly on their way.
